Excellent tutorial even 3 years later. The one addition I would have liked to see is error correction for the dependent drop down section. If Regions and Country are currently selected and the Region is changed, the Country remains the previous selection. This results in a selected Country not matching the Region. Needs to have something like an OnChange set to "" on that Countries cell.

Asking for help please. "General excel options --> Advanced --> Chart --> Unselecting Properties follow chart data point for current workbook" is not available in Excel on MacBook. Is there other way to get around this? Feeling discouraged after having done everything right so far but stuck at this unsolvable point. Thank you in advance.

Hi @theofficelab - this has been an eye opener and fantastic tutorial. I'm stuck on the Breakdown section, when I type in the large formula, i'm not getting the same result. I'm getting the row_id and item to work for the income section, but strangely it goes horribly wrong after that. /1 appears for the space, but the Expenses text appears and then -1 all the way to the bottom. I'm using a MAC Excel 365 incase anyone asks. Can someone suggest why this is the case? That would be great. Thank you.

Only one thing to comment/add as advice - use F4 to repeat last operation in Excel/Word... Anyway the best tutorial I've seen so far. Respect.

26:00 use this formula & name your header "year_one" in name manager. You'll be able to drag formula across. Ensure you change number format to "mmm" as he states. =LET(day,1,month,COLUMN()-COLUMN(year_one)+1,DATE(year_one,month,day))

u can do this on paper, what in the world of materialism is this. why make things complicated, why not calculate things by urself. it would be more fun to do this by writing it down every few days or weeks. this is too much modernization to be done

It would be great to see a second part of this video that introduces a "Total Savings" section, where all savings and investments recorded over the tracked years are summed up in a single graph. This would give a clear overview of your entire financial growth in one place. Another useful addition could be an "Initial Budget" feature, which tracks the amount of money you had before starting the spreadsheet. Overall, fantastic work!

I got stcuked when doing all my name manager calculations for expenses_min_row/expesenses_max_row. they dodn't match with the value 23 and 25. Time: 41:47. can someone help me please? it all goes to 22 when I select =expenses_max_row and =expenses_min_row. But my header and my total row they work fine. 22 and 33 respectively

@27:02 minutes when i put the starting year it keeps saying 1905-07-16.... the starting year is set to 2024. i got at the previous months correct but when i enter =E$5 it comes up as 1905-07-16. i don't know where this is pulling from!!

I It was not an easy task, as I had to adapt some functionalities or styles because the web version does not support a 100% the same functionalities as the desktop version. Nevertheless, I achieve a usable result which I am very happy for! There is a huge amount of information packed, and if you go through the problems I had, they were caused by an incompatibility of softwares rather than other thing. That being said, I want to highlight how well, detailed, clearly and calmly explained is this tutorial. Thanks @theofficelab Helpful hints and lessons learned: 1:15:10 On the web version I could not use the =INDIRECT formula to create a list that depends on the other list. I looked it up and nothing. My solution: bring the whole list from the Budget Planning Tab with the formula ='Budget Planning'!$C$9:$C$1000. I also put the words Income, Expenses and Savings in Capitals to have a visual separation. Unfortunately this also bring inadequate values as Total, or "enter x category" but is not that bad to avoid them. 1:46:30 It was way to complicated to add texts and shapes in the online version. I ended up doing the tiles in the available cells. It does not look that pretty, but it works. 2:22:00 This was a real headache and hard to realised. No idea why, but since row_id was named in the cell in row 13, instead of starting the list from Income, was starting 12 rows bellow, taking row 21 in the budget planning C column. The trick was to change the range in the name cell, for all those named cells done in the Budget Dashboard for the calculations. For Example row_id is ='Budget Dashboard'!$C1 instead of ='Budget Dashboard'!$C13, header_row_id is ='Budget Dashboard'!$D1 and so on with all the named sells for that step. Then in the future I applied this method to make the relations start in the correct order. Also it is not possible to select the scope of the named cell, by default is set to workbook, but it does not affect the workflow. 4:46:00 In the online version, is not possible to select individual bars from the chart to coloured them differently, the whole Series has only one colour. It takes the pretty result achieved, but if you made it this far it worth to compromise this detail and keep going. As mentioned above, I didn't have major problems, only those by an incompatibility of software, this means this tutorial rocks!

3:07:43 If you have more than 10 Categories in any Type the ranking will be messed up (when combining the ranks to the comb_rank column it will jump from 2 digit numbers to 3 or 4 digit ones) and the charts on the Dashboard will not show the correct details (e.g.: it will show the first 2 biggest categories and then jumps to the other - 6th row). To avoid this when you add the formulas to tracked_rank and budget_rank columns add “10” to the result so the numbering will start from 11 and not from 1. When it combines the 2 into the comb_rank column all numbers will be 4 digit and it will allow to create the correct allocation. =IF(is_cat, RANK(tracked, INDIRECT(tracked _range),0)+10,””) =IF(is_cat, RANK(budget, INDIRECT(budget _range),0)+10,””)

Its a great tutorial but Excel got a lot of updates and seems that a lot of functions are not working like relative cell reference for the category column. Seems that we cannot use indirect function with relative cell reference, its showing error and can't seem to solve it. Need a new updated tutorial for this please
