When an umpire had an unsuccessful career at any level of peewee ball and decided to make it all about him. Sad.

I remember in an interview at the time, Sports Illustrated if memory serves, when asked about his decision. Because he was one of the best Safetys at the time. He said baseball is easier, plus you can play longer for more money

My parents were from Seattle, and the 90s mariners stories are always so awesome. I always grew up with my dad calling him gay rod, but like anytime they talked about a rod for the mariners so fondly.

He does not belong in the HOF. He was involved in the scandal and could have exposed it if he'd chosen to. I don't buy that bunk about he was forced to do it. He did not report it to the White Sox ownership until after the World Series. His performance was stellar during the series so it does not seem as though he was sandbagging to throw the game. He was not as corrupt as the others, but he was not innocent.

Biggest bummer was being a Nats fan. Was the lack of fans, the Nats were riding the high of the fans and truly making them apart of the World Series run…just for them to never even get to see the gold uniforms in person 😞

One of the most amazing things about Rey's 100 games without an error is just how ridiculous his range was. There's a lot of guys who handled what was hit right at them but Rey was able to avoid errors even when the degree of difficulty was extreme. His double play partner Alfonzo was the opposite, very reliable fielder, one of the best ever in terms of fielding percentage but he was distinctly average moving laterally or coming in. That 99 Mets infield is usually talked about in terms of the best ever. It was the best I ever saw at any rate. Ventura at third was an incredible fielder. Olerud was the best receiving first baseman I've ever seen and a big part of why Rey and the rest of that infield committed so few errors. He turned so many off target throws into outs. And Alfonzo was a machine at 2b, if it was in his range it was an out. A lot of it comes down to whether you count the catcher in that conversation. Piazza wasn't a great defensive catcher.

Charlie Ward..... Heisman Trophy winner in College football and the 26th overall pick in the NBA draft with a modest 11 year career......also, even though he never played professionally, HOF baseball player Dave Winfield, was drafted by the MLB, NFL, NBA and ABA, four professional sports leagues in three different sports. That is just crazy

He isn't considered the GOAT because he wasn't an all around player. He didn't even care about playing defense and he couldn't run. Greatest hitter? Maybe, but he wasn't an all around great player. Too bad for him there was no DH in his time.

I cant believe Im saying this, but I think MLB handled this as well as they could. Which is funny, cause I cant think of a single other thing that I think they've done well at lately. But with Covid, they made it work somehow, and nothing horrible happened, so they get credit for that.

Im really not sure why anyone picks football over baseball. Unless if you play Quarterback that decision shouldnt even be hard. We see star running back make only $10 million a season while thats what an average mlb player can get. You can also play 15 years in the mlb while in the NFL you can expect 4-5 tops. It drives me crazy when i see nfl players complain about there contracts when they had years wasted playing football.
