It is personal preference. If you do shift, make sure you wait until right before you get back on the gas--you're using it for the drive off, but don't want to use it to slow you on entry!

I am finding I can turn in but can't seem to feel the point where I can get planted so I get that drive off. I used stock ratio 16 to 1, +4 offset, 57° ratio. I simply can't sense when I am mid-corner for the drive off. Your videos are the standard for iRacing track guides and very much appreciated from a pro-iRacing champ, TY sir all feedback is welcomed.

Other than business, and keeping us on the subscription...why do previous season setups fail tech? Tried running daytona 25S3 yesterday, but now it fails tech.
@maconisetupshop
@maconisetupshop 17 күн бұрын
Each season, iRacing updates the sim in a massive update. The update for 2025 Season 1 was 70 gigabytes, which included changes to the weather, aero, and track physics modeling. These changes will impact setups from previous seasons, which worked then, but no longer will after the changes. Those changes are outside of our control, and are made by iRacing to the entire platform.

@maconisetupshop i understand there's changes to many things with 58.2GB of updates this time around, but since when do tech standards change?
@maconisetupshop
@maconisetupshop 17 күн бұрын
Tech standards change, as well as the physics that dictates where each segment of the vehicle is. The setups are not "the ride height is now 3 inches, and compresses to 2.5 inches in the corner", for example, it is a series of calculations using iRacing's physics/aero/etc. parameters to determine where the vehicle ends up. If you change the physics parameters to adjust how much of an impact a specific adjustment has, then it can cause a setup that used to work to fail. Additionally, sometimes the vehicle's adjustable settings are changed, such as two seasons ago with the trucks when the spring perches were changed out for the current aero settings, and removing front spring rate entirely. The setups are a result of multiple vehicle settings interacting with iRacing to calculate the result. When iRacing pushes an update and changes those parameters, then the setup may or may not still work. Those changes are outside of our control, and are made by iRacing to the entire platform.

@@TheJimmycrakcorn Jeff covered everything really but the only thing id add on is iracing is always trying to get the garage to be as accurate as possible with the data and info they have from nascar... which is why during the week 13s through out the nascar season we tend to see small changes that dont always destroy a setup .. sometimes they do but its more rare compared to the off season where they do much bigger updates that can change things a lot. sometimes it doesnt take much to get a setup to pass if its failing after an update and other times we gotta start from scratch.

Can anyone explain why they still use legacy Kentucky? I bought the new one even though NASCAR doesn't use it. But I'm sure not going to buy the legacy one too.
@RobVrabel
@RobVrabel 16 күн бұрын
its a way for iracing to mix things up during the off season. IMHO ... not saying this to get you to spend money.. but legacy kentucky and other legacy tracks to me are much more fun and enjoyable than the new. Personally i cant stand new kentucky but old kentucky was like my 6th fav 1.5 mile we had. ive said in our team discord before i think old atlanta, old texas, homestead, chicago, charlotte, kentucky are my top 6 and id debate charlotte kentucky all day theyre so close. different time on iracing and the old gen 6 car also made the racing super enjoyable. but back to the point at hand... usually with the nascar off season this is a time for iracing to bring back some old tracks for people to experience and such.. really wish theyd do this with the old gen 6 or even the old B cars too cause they were a blast but thats why.

You never got full throttle I dont believe. The reason I say that is on my pc the throttle indicator has a black line at the top of the bar to show wide open. I see the line at the bottom showing you have fully lifted but never saw the one on top. I went back to look at a past week and it shows at the top. Its probably because your not using your normal setup or something.

You think tires will come in play like should we try and save and run high to low or just flat out
@DJYeeJay
@DJYeeJay Ай бұрын
In trucks tires don’t mean much I wouldn’t worry about it. In higher power cars it may impact your ability to work your way through a pack late in the run. So in Xfinity for instance you’d prefer to run low over running high for the first parts of the run

Video idea if you haven’t done it yet: can you explain your thought process as you determine what’s fastest line for a qualifying lap vs long run laps? How did you “know” low line on 3 and 4 saves more tire? How can we independently learn that ourselves and learn to make the decision that 1 and 2 is worth the tire burn to start high line? I’m fascinated by how you learn which lines to run. Right now I just do it by watching people like you run laps.

This gives you a better idea of the lines at chicago kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqvOnqmsmZ2drpIsi=sdIWBv8zPwcQMTcc And this guy explains why the big arc in not good on tires. He does the other nascar stuff, not the cup and being down on the line saves tires. If you’re running short races then the benifit isn’t as big kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqvOnqmsmZ2drpIsi=sdIWBv8zPwcQMTcc

Very good videos. You always hit everything but maybe a few more seconds on best tire savings strategies. I know bottom is usually best. Still haven't mastered it for long runs yet. Did a 48 lap green flag run here last night, was 2nd by over 2 seconds at one point. Fell to 5th by lap 48 when caution cane out. Rf was down to 48! I did race the leader really hard for 10 plus laps but then he checked out. Don't know how he has some left and I didnt.
@RobVrabel
@RobVrabel Ай бұрын
thank you, really the best advise i can give is to simply not slide the tires. its so easy to do when racing people especially if trying to pass on the bottom. More wheel input can easily over heat and wear the tires. typically when i talk about the fastest lines and tire saving lines its like when running by yourself which will save the most tire usually because you dont have to put extra wheel input in to keep it lower off the wall cause someones on your outside or keeping more wheel in it center corner cause someones above you. racing people will naturally wear your tires and its hard not to wear them!

This is why I love Homestead, there are so many different lines you can run and run almost the same pace. I've always been a bottom feeder at Homestead, my fastest Q laps are right on the white line. Sucks that it's so hard to compare what a good Q lap is now with the diff track temps in each session.

Thanks for the tips. I’ve been with iracing since the last beta in 08 but haven’t really raced much nascar, just felt odd? Ran all the papyrus titles with guys like Nim cross Kevin King, we ran a league called JRL. Been really just a RC racer in iracing except for a few truck leagues through the years. Like all racing your line is so critical. 👍

Just some extra tips from me as a road racer: - Play with the brakebias, it can make a massive difference depending on your drivingstyle - You can wait with downshifting into 1st for some extra rotation, just before you turn towards the apex - Wide entry, tight exit really works on this car, should help those who struggle with the oversteer. -Tires need at least a lap and a half to get up to temperature. - Because of the wide apexes, be warry of divebomb overtakes. - The Busstop chicane is everything. You need to slow down more then you think for the first part. A slow exit here is basically a position lost. - Stay away from the exit kerbs of T1 and T2. - The infield and pit exit are sloped at the edges, giving you less grip there Hope this helps

Can you explain what you mean when you say "diamond"?
@danielknight250
@danielknight250 2 ай бұрын
"Diamond"-ing a corner is where you enter the corner all the way on the inside against the curb, then let the car drift up half a lane or so in the middle of the corner, then turn down and clip the inside again on exit. It can help get really good runs on exit at short tracks like Martinsville. Plus it protects the inside on corner entry. Think of it like inverting the normal corner line, where you enter high, track down to the inside for the apex, then exit high.

Hey, thanks for the video! Do you have special recommendations for Quali? I guess for restarts the inside line is preferred? :D
@RobVrabel
@RobVrabel 2 ай бұрын
only thing different from a Qual lap to a race lap is just really high in 3-4 and cut down to get a bigger run to start the lap. other than that theres no difference between the two :) Typically yes the bottom is the preferred line on restarts :)
