You would use far less paint if you didn’t start with so much of the darker colors. All it takes is a very small amount of the darker colors mixed into the lighter colors. You can always add more if you want to but starting with so much of the lower value hues means using TONS of the higher values

As an artist, I concer, Your eyes are your best asesset. Techniques are important, but your eye develops your art. That development should focus on the viewers eye. Great video.

I agree. The keener an artist's eyes are, the less their brains make assumptions and miss the actual details. Open hearts, open eyes, art will flow through.

Hello Thanks very much for putting your helpful videos online. I would like to know about the palette you use in the videos, they seem to be throwaway and fit into a holder. Could you please give me the reference for them. Thanks in advance Ernie Margeson

Very valuable video! For oils and acrylics.i might be wrong.I reviewed what I learned in college. Really. Loved it. I never liked the color temperatures. But maybe the instructor was trying to keep it simple.

Thank you for this wonderful color/black mixing demo/tutorial, I always have a hard time to use black - adding 3 primary colors, but the result is not black and I just don;t know which color to add to change it, and have to try many times to get it (and use lot of paints). Now i learned the adding white color trick to get the black. Thank you very much.

Has anyone told you that you sound a little like Bob Ross? Not so much your actual voice but the tone and demeanor. Have to say this was more comprehensive than any other vid I've seen on color theory. Something else to take into consideration with the colors you start out with is how many pigments it has... the more pigments it has, the more likely you are to get a color that is muddy or a weird color when you mix it.
