Note that now, these bikes are 20 years old now. I'd rather have a higher mileage bike with a good and timely service history over a lower mileage bike with a lack of service history and long periods of inactivity. Italian bikes do not like sitting around for possibly years on end doing nothing. Low mileage can equate to a world of trouble if you want to ride it and enjoy it. Ok if you just want to stare at it in the man cave.

Just about to rebuild my 1990 KDX shock and this is useful. Got to say though, referring to about 8m20s in, don't worry about the effects of 1000 to 1500psi - it's nothing like that.... It's 1000 to 1500 kPa (KiloPascals) which equates to a much less scary 140 to 215psi!

Hey Man, The scuffs that are on the ring come from the tool you are using to take out the seal. First take the metal ring out and then take out the seal. Second. If you don't replace the O'ring, or O'rings, (depending on the bike, I think this one has 2) it will always continue to leak. And last but not least. If your front sprocket has play in it (from side to side) it will leak. The outside clip has to be tough to put on so there is pressure on the sprocket and that turns into pressure on the metal ring, and that holds the rubber O'rings in place so there is not leakage. Got to be somewhat of a tight fit to hold it against the O'rings. Also check your splines to make sure they are not worn to the point of being sloppy. Hope this helps.

The Samco sport kit for the 749 has a choice of two options: The Duc-5 kit has the two short hoses and the Duc-8 kit has the larger 90º elbow for the rad attachment. Have no idea way Ducati has two different radiators for he 749.

Does pretty much any shop charge it with nitrogen? Or just pumping it with that bike pump alright?
@GoRideChannel Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure - I know a lot of shops do have nitrogen. My assumption is that the nitrogen is slightly more inert than air and also slightly less likely to leak out than air, which is about 21% oxygen. But given my (lack of) riding ability, I don't think it'd make a difference to me!

We're watching a man ruin his bike from being uneducated about the thing. Are you even listening to the engine explosions? How many explosions are you hearing in a short period of time? You've got way too many explosions happening. It's only supposed to be doing 2 explosions per cycle. You've got 20 explosions per engine cycle. Your engine is revving It's guts out before you've driven anywhere. You've hit the rev limiter and kept on revving passed the rev limit. It's NOT a high rev Suzuki engine. It's Kawasaki's trademark mid range racing engine. You could go back to the main BIG bang engine if this 2 small explosions engine is too difficult for you to understand. They didn't give you 5000 explosions per engine cycle. Instead of 1 BIG explosion, they divided the 1 explosion into 2 small explosions. You don't have a motor that sounds like, bababaaabangba bang bang. Your engine is supposed to sound like, bang bang, bang bang, bang bang, The old engine was just like, BANG! - - - BANG! - - - etc. The KDX is not a trail bike or a woods bike. Its got nothing to do with woods or trails. It's designed for motocross racing but It's professionally tuned for endurance motocross racing. It's got a nonlinear gearbox, a high rev racing engine, lazy steering and lazy suspension and racing brakes plus special endurance tires.

@GoRideChannel2 жыл бұрын
It wasn't terrible, as I remember. The trick is whether or not your old hoses come off cleanly. There are specialized tools for removing hoses and they help tremendously. I'd put this at like a 3 or so, if 1 is changing your oil and 10 is doing a crack repair on an aluminum block by welding and machining and then doing a full rebuild with poured bearings...

I don't really know a whole heck of a lot about it. I sold it relatively shortly after getting it. The valves, I believe, are shim-type, but I couldn't tell you the interval or difficulty off hand. Everything else should be fairly straight forward in terms of oil, filters, chain, lubrication, and the occasional fork oil swap and shock rebuild.

"Do as I say and not as I do" so glad to hear that, particularly after the rant about maintenance and whether the seller should have access to tools, all the while he's riding around with the front fairing and both OEM mirrors missing (nice to see the OEM levers still fitted though).
@GoRideChannel3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I did ZERO research prior to buying this bike. It was an impulse based on price. As usual, if I'd just bought a nice one, I would've saved a fair amount of money in the long run. Supposedly the OEM fairings were ditched because the kickstand didn't fit properly in the pocket cut-out of the original fairing. I didn't believe this at first, assuming the bike had probably just been crashed, but based on what I know now, the seller was probably telling the truth, and didn't know the side stand mounts were destroyed and THAT is why it wasn't lining up correctly. I've had the bike for over 6 years now, and I'll typically handle basic maintenance, but things like belts and Desmo's I've had the dealer do. When it is due for belts, I'll usually allow the dealer to do the remainder of the annual service just to have a second set of eyes on it. After three cycles of this, the bike actually runs and rides really, really well, apart from the cam timing/hot stall issue inherent on the bike. I know it's stupid, but I'm afraid if I put nice fairings on it, I'll end up crashing it the next day. If I leave it ugly, nothing will happen.
@techo613 жыл бұрын
@@GoRideChannel I see you've now become intimate with the bike. Funny again you should say yours was an impulse buy, my 2005 999S was an interstate twenty hours and 1,800km/1,120mile round trip, <48 hours after seeing the advert and it was in my garage. Mine came with a whole bunch of specialist tools so I can do all my own maintenance (valve clearances, timing belts etc). While mine didn't have any service history, the previous owner said the belts were recently replaced. It started fine, ran smooth, tank looked brand new inside, no fluid leaks, no odd noises (but for the excessively worn clutch basket and friction plates) and the plastics were excellent; so I bought it. Once it was home and the first thing I did was replace the belts. So glad I did as the belts were loose and both tensioner bearings were wound up in the incorrect direction. Then I noticed both fork legs were leaking (probably from being compressed all the way home). I ordered new seals from the dealer then once disassembled I discovered they where the wrong size. The dealer said the correct seals would take minimum 6 weeks to come from Italy which I couldn't afford to wait for, so I cleaned the old seals, inspected and refitted them, 1500km later and they're fine. The dealer did the right thing and cancelled the order and refunded me. Next were valve clearances and thankfully they were all in spec. Then the clutch, well it still works fine and there just typical wear which can wait 'til I decide on a slipper clutch upgrade or stick with stock. For me there's nothing like the therapeutic hours spent on your own pride and joy if only for the peace of mind knowing I'm not going to be left on the side of the road in risky circumstances (or if I do I'll know why).
