F rom what I read, she was a good person. It’s said she adopted many children, all different colours to show we can all live together.

If you all want to hear James Blythe play another piece where he boogies practically throughout, check out his piano accompaniment to Sodarisa Miller on their 1925 record "Sunshine Special", which is a train blues (hence, the train bass): kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHOamppnp9SHnqc

This audience is none other than the first French soldiers who left for the battlefield at the beginning of the German invasion against. France, all of whom died on the battlefield. this show was the day before they were sent to the front lines.

I don’t speak French. But I believe that she told Ms.Josephine Baker to dance. That they did not favor her!❤❤❤ Their costumes were beautiful but they did not have her spirit for the dance!

If memory serves, she created a sensation in Paris doing what they called ‘the hummingbird dance’. From the description, it sounded like she had invented twerking.

That’s crazy. The elements of the dance here are much closer to African dance than anything else. Didn’t know this was a thing back then .

I love how she really gets down into a rumba … just moving pretty much a spiritual experience… letting go and following the music and getting into ecstasy. One does it with a real rumba that starts to get harder and faster. It does feel so goood! Every time I see this I am like wow! But then the Parisian’s have been hedonistic for quite a long time. They want to experience everything!

I’m not sure if I get the context here. Looks like some of the white folks were expecting her to fail some kind of etiquette bar … in any case, a woman ahead of her time with stunning courage. There’s a character modeled on Miss Baker in the book Welcome to Blekeleigh Court.
