Two ways of getting hate Christmas smell into your apartment. Take one or two needles off the Christmas tree, use a pincet to put them into the flame of a candle, and let them burn. They will "sprinkle" because of the oil in the needles. Take a bit of the peel from an orange. Bend it/squeeze it, in front of the flame of a candle. Tiny droplets will go into the flame, and evaporate. PS: Don't teach your children too early ;)

It was an unusual menu for Christmas evening dinner. Most danes eat duck, and pork roast with red cabbage, sugar coated patatos and plenty of gravy etc. I love backed patato, salats and it looke very well made and there can be many reasons people dont prefer the traditional menu.

I'm happy that you forced yourself into a sitiuation that might not have felt comfortable, i would've chickene'd out for sure. I do believe that life is a journey, and that the best way to experience things, is to let go of the control from time to time, and just go with the flow. say "i actually want to do this" and then follow through with it, and not chicken out. Maybe those 3 new friends, are going to be your new friends for many years to come, maybe 2 will stick, and 1 wont, who knows, but atleast you're brave enough, to chase the friendships and put yourself out there and honestly, forging your own luck, is more accurate than you''d think. You'd gain nothing, if you dont try! great respect for doing what some of us, are too anxious to do ^^

As a Dane who has lived most of my life abroad and only had non Danish girlfriends, I can relate quite a lot to your situation. And I think you are doing the right thing, by connecting to some other expats. When you move to a new country, we are all very much in to getting to know everything and everyone. But most locals have spent years forming their own friendship group in the place they live and that can be hard to break into. So my advice is to keep doing what you are doing and you will most likely find that the majority of the Danish friends you will make are Danes who have a foreign partner. And that is great, because you will have much more in common with these people than with Danes who have never really been living internationally.
@asaadac10 күн бұрын
@@biking-viking-claus-andersen thank you for that advice! I’m glad you can relate as someone who has also lived abroad. It reminds me that I’m not the only one who has experienced the loneliness that comes with moving to a new country 🤗

The dark, long and cold Nordic winthers ARE tough, it's not just a saying. Find the small things, that makes you feel good and relaxed, and share them with your new friends, and make them feel it too. It can be a little american treat, music, smells, theatre-visits, candles...anything that works for you. We can't beat the darkness, we must embrace it, and take it as an invitation to hygge. Long dark winthers created hygge.

Very good, you are active in finding friends. Many people lay on the couch waiting for friends, it is not how it works. If you find a really good friend, then don't let him/her down. Here it is normal with friends for life. Second: Never be late, it is very much a friend killer. Should you be late, use the phone, also if it's only 10 minutes. Never late to anything in this country, it is rude. Surprise your husband with gløgg and æbleskiver. Buy finished gløgg and frozen æbleskiver, remember some jam. The recipe for a hyggelig evening. God Jul!

A small note. If you are speaking Danish and the Dane doesn't understand what you just said, simply repeat it. Don't be discouraged. Sometimes the listener is maybe expecting English from you and when you then speak Danish (with your accent) your Danish does not sound like the English the listener's ear is expecting. So hearing a "What?" og "Hvad?" from the person you speak to isn't necessarily an indication of how well or poor your pronounciation is. There is this "mode switching" that needs to happen on the listener's part. If that makes sense...
@stigolar14 күн бұрын
Your Danish pronunciation is fantastic but it hurts when you pronounce water as "vaaand". The d at the end tells you that the a should be short and stressed as in "very". 😊 The Glyptoteket has free admission on Tuesdays.
