How did you know the number of calibrations that a gas cylinder can do?
@Idealcalibrations
@Idealcalibrations 27 күн бұрын
It's a bit of an estimation really, but it holds up as a decent estimate in practice. You base the estimation on the flow rate of the regulator. Most detectors use a 0.5lpm regulator, and on average a calibration takes about 2 minutes of gas, so about 1 calibration per liter. That'll vary based on the gas detector and the flow rate of the regulator you use. You also need to calculate that the bottom 75 PSI or so of the cylinder won't be useable because it doesn't have enough pressure behind it to flow properly. Worked out, this gets you to: 34L - Est 30 calibrations 58L - Est 50 calibrations 116L - Est 100 calibrations MSA uses a 0.25lpm regulator which should grant you about double the calibrations, but due to their LEL sensor switching beads internally after each calibration you should really calibrate it twice to ensure both beads internally are calibrated, per MSA's tech support. Hope that helps!

How do you incorporate the Isobutylene gas test with the pentane gas test?
@Idealcalibrations
@Idealcalibrations 5 ай бұрын
If you have a PID sensor you'll need an additional cylinder (idealcalibrations.com/Isobutylene-C4H8-calibration-gas/?sku=103DST-0038-48) to calibrate. Once you finish the 4-gas calibration it will enter the PID calibration and ask you for the Isobutylene gas. Just repeat the last step from the 4-gas calibration and you'll be good to go. You have enough time to quickly remove your tubing from the monitor, then the regulator from the cylinder, and finally to screw the regulator into the Iso cylinder and reattach your tubing. If you don't detach the tubing from the gas detector you can sometimes have errors on the pump so keep that in mind.

How does gas expire?
@Idealcalibrations
@Idealcalibrations 7 ай бұрын
Hello! This answer is a long one, so I'm going to link a blog post I made on the topic if you want more info: idealcalibrations.com/blog/why-does-calibration-gas-expire-fade/ Essentially components like Hydrogen Sulfide are reactive and can interact with things like the cylinder wall, valve, or oxygen in the cylinder over time. A cylinder that you bought at 25ppm from the day it arrived may be down to 23ppm or lower by the time the cylinder expires. This will screw up your calibrations and you'll either start seeing false positives or if the H2S fades too low you'll start seeing failed calibrations. Generally when a sensor has an H2S issue the first thing we double check is the calgas that was used to calibrate it. Some gases, like Ammonia or Chlorine, are far more reactive than others, so you'll see their warranty and expected life as much lower than other cylinders that have H2S or SO2 in them. Hope that helps!

@Idealcalibrations

None that I would trust if using a gas detector daily. What gas are you looking at? Unless it's something seriously exotic you should be getting way more than 6 months out of a cylinder

Hey Rathan, did you wait an hour or so after installation to test? If so and it still failed, it's either the board has gone bad in that slot or you got a dud O2 sensor. If you got a dud I would send it back and get a warranty replacement. Unfortunately like 2% of them fail coming out of the factory. Make sure you've purchased from a reputable supplier, I've seen a good number of these being sold through Amazon and the like coming out of China with bad quality and fake labels.

@Idealcalibrations
@Idealcalibrations 9 ай бұрын
With NH3 sometimes it's a good idea to run some gas over the sensor first to wake it up. This can also show you if the gas or the sensor are dead. I'd also try and keep the tubing length as short as humanly possible. 2-3 inches of tubing max. Make sure to check the expiration on your gas as well. If it's expired you'll need new gas. NH3 sensors aren't the most robust either, so they may just randomly fail as well. Try and keep track of your sensor warranty dates to save yourself some money.

Is the bump gas the same as calibration gas?
@Idealcalibrations
@Idealcalibrations 11 ай бұрын
Great question! Generally it isn't. Calibration gas can be used as bump gas, but bump gas can't be used as calibration gas as it isn't accurate enough. Bump gas is usually just a high concentration that has less accuracy and is used to set off the alarms each day.

Two questions: -what is the interval for changing all 3? -user manual (section 4.5) says not to use the fibrous dust filter if the device is configured for Cl2; is this correct? It doesn't feel so
@Idealcalibrations
@Idealcalibrations Жыл бұрын
Hey there, you've read it correctly on the dust filter. Fibrous dust filter has a habit of picking up your Cl2 and throwing off calibrations or low level readings. If you're running a unit with a Cl2 sensor, just use the thing water stop filter (internal on unit) instead. Make sure you're also using the reactive tubing instead of the standard or it'll suck up your gas. Finally make sure when you cal the Cl2 sensor you're using a dedicated stainless steel regulator that isn't used on other cylinders (store it not attached to the cylinder as well) and use the shortest possible length of tubing you can get away with (1-2 inches). There's no set interval on changing, but I use the following guidelines: 1. Is the filter visibly dirty (not just discolored a bit) 2. Are you having a calibration error 3. Is your monitor failing pump block test or having pump issues. Any of the above and I would change the filter. You should be changing filters in this order of frequency/priority: 1. Water stop filter inside the probe (cheapest) 2. Fibrous dust filter (middle priced) 3. Moisture membrane in monitor (most expensive) Hope that helps!

How do you fix an O2 sensor malfunction?
@Idealcalibrations

Hey Samuel, Best bet would be to fix an O2 sensor fail is to just replace the oxygen sensor (found here if you need one - idealcalibrations.com/sensor-bw-gasalertmicroclip-x3-o2-sensor/). If your old sensor leaked any electrolytic fluid on your O2 board you may need to replace that as well (part for that here - idealcalibrations.com/bw-gasalertmicroclip-xl-xt-flex-printed-circuit-board/). Once you've installed the new sensor let the unit sit for 45 minutes or so to stabilize. Then zero and calibrate the X3 and you should be all set. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any further questions!
