That's not the safest way to use that compressor. The spring with the compressor top hooks connected goes in the lower control arm. The curved part of the compressor goes below the lower control arm. You tighten it up from there while lifting the lower control arm. Like this kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJKppaqnl86GmNksi=1k4j9inCzm9vFAgm

how deep did you dig the toprail in the ground? I know you said you got 2 feet of it, but did you use 2 feet for each side or split the 2 feet and 1 foot in?

@@t-towngarage217 I did this sort of thing but instead of the wooden board I used a yoga mat and rolled it into that. It provided a ton of grip and I felt if anything went wrong it would absorb some of it. Spring install was uneventful, thankfully :)

You kinda did it the hard way. Ive used that exact compressor on multiple G body cars. Put the spring into the pocket on the frame. Feed the hooks and spring up from the bottom. The threaded shaft goes through the hole for the shock in the frame from above. Start the threaded shaft into the bar for the hooks. Use a 1/2" ratchet to tighten the nut and that will pull the spring up into the spring pocket. Its a slow process but works very well. If you started the hooks down low the spring will compress far enough to get the lower control arm into spindle without any issues. MUCH easier and safer than picking up a compressed spring.

Any idea if this would work with a truck? I'm doing a complete rebuilt of my front suspension and I've never worked with springs bigger than in my drums. It's a 2007 Ford Ranger btw if that helps.

what size is the toprail? so the pole fits in perfectly?
@t-towngarage2174 жыл бұрын
unfortunately it's been awhile and I don't remember. I would measure the outside diameter of your pole and then go to the hardware store and just measure the inside diameter of the top rail.

The item I'd point out is this. When you remove the old coil spring w/ the compressor, measure the distance of the entire coil w/ the compressor inside the compressed coil spring. Now, when you compress the new spring for installation, compress the new spring to the EXACT same distance as was measured when you removed the old coil spring. In this way, you never compress the new coil spring any farther than is necessary. This saves not only time, but ensure a far safer environment because you never want to (or need to) compress a spring any farther than necessary.
