I hope they'll do a rule from now on where there can't be more than 1 set for a theme in the 5 final picks. I agree that there's too many medieval entries.
@jkbuilders200018 күн бұрын
That wouldn't be a bad idea.
@Badgers_99 күн бұрын
They do have this rule and it has applied to most series. However in series 4 they had too many of the highly voted sets get conflict blocked, and they only want to drop down the voting rankings so far so they went back to the top and it happened to be another medieval set. The other consideration after votes, removing blocked sets, themes, is the price points as they aim to have an average of about 2700 pieces.

I’m a modular fan as well. Some good picks. The Odeon Theatre is a great design -was surprised it was a “not for you”.
@jkbuilders200018 күн бұрын
Ya unfortunately we waited too long to do this video so we were really short on time and I wasn’t able to give each set a real good look. I went back and checked out the Odeon again, I definitely should have given it at least a like it…

I get wanting to get what you paid for, but I don't see much of an issue with a modular having various shades of gray. Real stone/bricks aren't all identical

Interesting, no we kept it, it’s on a display shelf next to the city, we might throw it in when we do a future expansion

Hi, it is fun to watch you. In next round of BDP, Series 5, I will have a model, too, and I'm curious what your reaction will be and will watch, if you do a video like this one. To bring some light to the darkness, these definitely are arcades, which is an architectural feature, namely a series of arches on pillars (from Latin arcus), often used for covered sidewalks or in shopping malls. Arcade games and penny arcades derived their name from the fact that these shops with slot machines (where you loose your Pennys) in the US were mainly placed in malls which were built in arcade style. The notion that the sole term "arcade" has anything to do with gambling and slot machines is quite strange to elder Europeans, since it has little to do with arches. Thus, you will find (at least in Europe) shopping centres and passage ways with the name "Arcades" which don't have anything to do with gambling/gaming

i have a strong feeling a hospital modular is right around the corner. we already have a fire brigade and police station. all we really need is a hospital and we would have a full emergency service crew. and with the next modular being a corner building, they could do what they did with the corner garage and have a little area you can drive into to drop off patients. Would also be cool to get a late 30s early 40s ambulance in a potential hospital modular.

I’m hoping! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I am actually doing the same. but to try save money i'm also looking through all of my LEGO and parts i have that are used in the set, i put into a Ziplock bag. I will say even if you buy the parts without a box or instructions or minifigures, you will still be able to make your money back. I do like the tree and the American flag, while today they look kinda bad and cheap. back in 2009 they would have been nice for a city. The Fire Brigade will also be my first tome buying the parts from a website like Bricklink.

For me, the dark horse was originally my least favourite based on the box art as it looked a bit too boxy but when I saw it in-store built and the techniques used in the builds, and finally built it myself, I think it might be my favourite

The Bricklink folks actually outline what their selection criteria is in their periodic podcasts. Their primary metric is votes. However, there are a lot of other metrics. I don't remember all of them. A big one is that the average piece count for the five sets needs to be around 2,500 pieces. Another two are that they prefer to feature new creators and spread out the themes. I think that if you are interested in the modular city sets, that piece count metric is a HUGE component. Most modulars are more than 2,500 pieces. Another component is that most of the minifigures available for use in the program seem to lean castle . Personally, castle theme is my favorite, and I aim to create two castle entries in the next program. I am a new designer, so crossing my figures (also I am not using light bluish-gray castle walls). I can understand the disappointment if you don't like castle, though.

Best of luck on your creation! I didn’t realize there was a podcast I may have to look that up.
