That first red player is a sociopath 😂. Who thinks more about messing their opponent up than building their own settlements? 🤔

Wow, this video helped a lot, and I learned a lot too! I really like the fact that you took your time explaining everything and ran through different scenarios along with doing a recap at the end. Thank you for making this.

very nice move of you choosing to build the city on ship 3-4. Black, however, can have maximum of 12 roads instead of 11 as you said.

Hi Izzwan, thank you for the helpful video. At 11:58, can you explain why you chose the upgrade the city in 3-4-6, but not 6-11-12? I thought we would need more ore in later game for city than sheep?
@mariuscramer53262 жыл бұрын
I higly disagree wood brick sheep can be first to pick on planty on Boards always depends on the Board and the players your playing with if you play agains stronger players they tend to overblock ows but on the Board you Showed 6 9 3 is the best pick but you also have to look what are ur outs on the Board you showed the main out for first is the 6 3 11

Very good video, some very nice tips there. The 6th tip I miss is the very first thing you should do: analyze the board thoroughly. See how much of each resource there is, what resources have high-producing spots near their port, etc. Most crucially: how much ore is there compared to wheat? And how much brick is there compared to wood? Make sure you prioritize settling the rare one of the two, as the other one is going to be easily available from trades with the other players.

at 1:15 my understanding was that even if black did build a road towards the 10/5/9 they wouldn't be able to build since red would have a road on either side of the settlement. is it true that you can't build "in the middle" of someone's road or is that a house rule that was made up when I was taught the game?
@ditrixgenesis7813 жыл бұрын
2 months late, but if the Steam Catan is anything to go by, not only can you place a settlement, you also cut off their road (as longest road), so long as it's two vertices away from another settlement of course.

First reply is accurate. The game is designed to create cooperate vs defect game theory scenarios.
@hjaltenielsen75663 жыл бұрын
Subtle mistake: 10:38 You know that black's main challenge will be getting expansion spots. As the board currently looks, black will take the 8,4 spot. but even with largest army, he will need at least one more spot. (you also have 3 vp's, meaning there are only 2 left, so it is highly unlikely for him to get both.) His options for expansion spots are the 9,12, and the 4,11 obvious choice being 4,11 (shorter, and he blocks you.) So when placing a road, which is meaningless for you, you should rather just block his chance of taking it from you. (which he tries at the very end of the game, and probably would have, if you hadn't been so lucky as to draw 3 vp's)

Hi, I think cropping so that the board and gameplay itself is a little bigger would be nice. The "Join our discord" on both sides isn't really adding much.

If I were to add a sixth and seventh, it would be: Gullible Trades as well as Not Trading Enough. I see MANY inexperienced players be way too loose in accepting trades: not realizing that they're often being taken advantage of by experienced players rolling over them by exploiting their inexperience. You have to know when to exercise your inner-trade protectionist and make sure you don't make your opponents' position better than your own when proposing trades. That said, others make the mistake of choosing not to trade at all: which is equally as costly because solely relying on four-to-one trades often to get by just isn't an efficient strategy. The idea is to try and force your opponents into making four-to-one resource conversions but also seeing the value in how a trade here and there can accelerate your own goals as opposed to being too stubborn.

I played a game the other day where I bought 11 or 12 dev cards (myself) & didn't get a single VP. I did get largest army....w/ something like 6 Knight cards. I also drew 1 YofP, 2 Road cards & 2 Monopoly cards yet somehow still managed to lose. I took a couple days off after that one to recover lol.

Hi man, I recently subscribed and I love the content. The only "mistake" I saw in your play is not trying to trade in the last two turns. I believe nobody saw you as a threat and maybe they would accept the trade. It doesn't hurt to try.

Blue’s second settlement should have been in the 3 8 so they get the wood port, much better wheat and they can expand to the 4311. I have seen lots of people win without ore. I understand their reasoning though because they have an ore port on the left, They make a critical mistake of expanding on the 8 wood instead of the 5 brick. They already have a 3 to 1 port and since they don’t have any wheat, they will have excess ore and they can trade that in the ore port on the 5 brick.

Smooth U-boat game! At 18:00 you had the chance to build the road upwards and effectively stop green from building his road any longer. Would it not have been safer to make that block, rather than connect, since you could always connect but green had the chance then of extending the game (maybe even allowing red to catch up in roads?)
@demmidemmi4 жыл бұрын
The problem with feast or famine isn't really that you will have a whole game with low/high hits. But rather that it will cause you bust the card limit more often and thus lower your income that way or allow you less flexibility through forcing you to hold fewer cards.
@themangotango954 жыл бұрын
You didn’t need to move the robber from your sheep. You could’ve won a turn earlier. Good game regardless and I’ve never seen someone place their second settlement like that to block off hexes. Very well done.

I disagree with your placement for black. I'd go 4/6/9 first and 5/8/10 second and hope red doesn't go 2/6 in fear of being cut off from the wood port. Thoughts?
@Mario-qd9hq4 жыл бұрын
that were also my thoughts cause i think red would take 3/4/8 and get to the sheepport which means that black has massiv wood/brick production and wood port

Hey izzwan, regarding the second placement - do you see any advantages from placing on the other 6-3-11 just to to left of the one you suggest here? The way I see it, it’s a more valuable defensive placement. It locks out the 11-6-5 Ore-Wheat-Sheep, and in terms of thinking on expansion spots, the 11-6-12 Ore Wheat Brick will likely be open, which is a stronger second settlement than the 11-12 ore-brick Also regarding blacks placement, I think a smart player would see the free road second spot and want to lock that out. So placing on the 9-6-4 wheat-brick-sheep sets up better than the 5-8-10 on top. It forces red to place on the 6-2 if they want to win the race, locks up more brick for early trades, and provides more space to potentially connect roads in the longest road race
