@@hdr96k thank you, my goal is just getting it streetable. Not really going to restore. It does have the original motor/trans and I got almost the entire original car except the carb. Probably clean up the paint and wrap it and leave the original paint in place for whoever ends up with it when I’m bored.

That is not that bad, you could do a patch panel on the front or do the complete drivers side. The back drivers side does not look that bad from the video, if you clean it you should be able to just POR15 it and it would be fine. My 71 Mach 1 had the same issue with the drivers side, it had also rusted from the inside, the front had a hole similar to yours and the rear had surface rust and a couple of pinholes. Did a front patch panel and got all the rust out of the rear. For the pinholes in the back I used a product that POR15 makes called "patch filler", it's like a paste that you can put over the pinholes and it hardens like a rock, it is as hard as steel when dry, then I used POR15 over all of it. Check your cowl, you may have rust in there and that is where the water is coming in from.
@UFPTX
@UFPTX 15 күн бұрын
The cowl seems to be ok and drains right not into the interior. I don’t see anything from around the outside. The heater core on the other hand- is not ok..

Once you get that rear window trim off, do everything in your power to save the rubber. Repros fit like crap. Saw a six figure 69 GT350 at Barrett Jackson with the stainless trim all beat up from trying to fit it back over top of a repro gasket

I've been really on the fence about getting one of these kits. Mostly because the barrels are $$$$, if you can get one. Working the belt feed mechanism onto a G3 barrel/trunnion would be a cheaper option but not sure how that would go.

I have this mandrel coming in. I feel you on the RTG units. I’m not sure what’s up with them but hopefully I can straighten the one I have out. It didn’t bend well at all. The mandrel I have now was available from a guy in LA for a while. His tools were/are halfassed at best. I’m in San Antonio, TX and have a CETME project in the garage and I can tell I’m way out of the limits of my tooling and abilities. I’ve repaired, built, tuned, restored, refurbished a LOT of guns in the past 17 years but I’m at the point where buying a complete one is the route to go and sell,off the complete kit with receiver flat. Or, is there someone in my area that I can get help from? My concern is not getting everything in spec and screwing up the headspace not to mention the magazine alignment. I see that Atlantic has a batch of Century G3’s with drum rear sights on sale at $850 and that is tempting!
@UFPTX

Great call on the bending jig bar. I completely forgot about that and was a perfect fit. 22mm diameter. No additional cutting need on mine and popped the trunnion right out. The force was enough to shear the little bit of sheet metal on the old receiver that was welded near the cocking tube.

I texted them an idea for just a longer mandrel that’s used for the tube alignment. If it came out the back it would negate the need for the full mandrel as on most versions most of the welding is at the top and cocking tube joint. Would be easy to make. For what I have kicking I think the full unit will pay for itself.
