As someone whose mother has been in a wheelchair for as long as I can remember, stuff like this pisses me off. Reminds me of the time my family went to the farmers market. Came back to our van, and someone had parked illegally in the access lane, meaning we couldn't put down the ramp to get my mom's wheelchair in the van. We ended up having to call the cops, who personally stood by the car and waited for the person to return while we had to pull partially out into the road to load the wheelchair into the van.

Ya, should have called a tow company. Police are not above the law, and a good tow truck driver doesn't care WHO is parked illegally, only that they are

How do you drive if your legs don’t work? Not trying to be rude or anything just genuinely curious

Yeah, I agree with you. These parking were created for us and people in mobility disabilities and wheelchairs, it was not created for someone to be ignorant enough and violate the law which was establish in the 1990s to the Americans With Disabilities Act, the parking ticket is about $1000 I believe, it should be that plus towing and remove your vehicle, on the spot

Honestly it doesn’t surprise me that this was in Norfolk. I’ve only experienced the most rude and entitled cops when I lived there. I’m sure whoever parked there doesn’t care and that sucks.

I try to explain to people about not parking in the access aisles but they rarely listen. Both my mom and i are disabled as she's had hernias that impare her walking as well as broken an ankle and now has metal plates. I myself it turns out have degenerative disk disease that started with dehabilating pain at 13 and only just last year finally got an mri approved to find out its a bulging and torn disk and looks like degenerative disk disease. So our handicap parking is crucial especially on bad days. As even i have a wheelchair now that i try to bring along if im having a hellish day with my back but its second hand, wheels like to drift to the left, and im still trying to get used to it so dont take it all days unless im doing a walk from my house to the store. But lately here at our local store weve been having an issue of people straight up parking in handcap or the yellow lines. Some people genuinely dont even understand why spots like that have the extra space. Like ive at least had a conversation about why the van parking is specifically there and why its crucial they stop letting people park in those lines when its there for the disabled who use those spots so its easier to get in and out depending on circumstances a d equipment. But the best one was an instance where my fiance drove us tot he store and upon him getting out a car came flying in and honked at him to try to make him move to park in the yellow lines. They actually kept pushing forward and almost hit him cause they seemed more determined to park there than care about a person actively standing there trying to get out of the car. But he managed to get back in the car and close the door before they could fully hit it. Well we go do our shopping, get back to the car, by then the first car is gone, he helps me in then as he's trying to open the driver door to get it it happens again of another car honking and this time actually did push him with their car and barely left room between the two carsfor him to get in the car.
