Very interesting aspects of paraplegia! My gf is also a wheelchair user and she usually buys her shoes one size bigger, it's much easier to put them on that way. If your feet are swollen you'll be glad about having bigger shoes ;)
@ParaTara3 жыл бұрын
Yeah they probably would be easier to put on lol! I just make the laces super loose so they’re easy to take on and off and to make sure they have extra room for swelling! I find that converse (chucks) are actually pretty easy to wear! But they have been broken in a little!

@@MultiSimon1993 well I’m still trying to figure out boots 😂 those are tricky! And I can put most heels on but my ankles don’t seem to be strong enough to stay straight if that makes sense! They kinda just look like I’d be walking on the sides 😂

@@ParaTara Sounds interesting, maybe you get a few tips on how to prevent your ankles from bending and how to put on boots. You could try it, though :)

This might be an odd comment, but I'm researching paraplegic life as one of my characters has spina bifida and I really care about realism. Your videos are very helpful! I subscribed :^) Part of the fun of making characters is giving myself an excuse to research into things

@@ParaTara Spasms and tremors are the muscles way of trying to counter atrophy. You need to be using TENS therapy and hydrotherapy to stimulate your muscles and nerves. The braces can be a pain, but use them as often as you can and try to stand for at least an hour a day (use a walker or lean against something). Otherwise, your legs are going to start to wither and shrink. I've been paralyzed for 39 years, but I only spent 6 in a wheelchair. I kept using the braces, going to PT, and took up swimming (the water works miracles!). Eventually I was able to use a walker to get around by lifting my body then swinging my legs forward. It's not the fastest mode of transport, but at least you can go places a chair can't. I spent a few years on the walker before adapting to forearm crutches. Now there's not too many places I can't go. I even hike in the mountains off-trail. If you ever need any advice, I'd be glad to help.

Your looking in the wrong places friend, neuro science and physical therapy is the route to take.... Please search my name and watch my videos, I was told I would never walk again by many many specialists after my spinal cord injury... And spent months paralyzed... I now run and kick my punching bag and ride my bike.....I also speak The Holy name of Jesus upon you.. May the holy spirit dwell deep within you.. May father mend his creation back to his intent... I pray he cast out and banish these unatrual ways... In the name of Jesus, Amen!
@ParaTara3 жыл бұрын
Yes of course neuro PT is the best! However, I don’t believe my way of life should be perceived as unnatural. I suppose your injury was diagnosed as incomplete to start, making is more likely to make a fuller recovery, but mine was originally diagnosed as complete, ASIA A!

@@ParaTara forgive my arrogance friend.. but I have FAITH in YOU... If you have stem muscles that squeeze, there's a pathway to be found ❤️..... And to answer I had a burst fracture with bone fràgments sent into my spnal cord and a partially chopped area.. with compression and bruising to spinal cord above and below the main damage.. which also crushed vertebrae above and below the burst with multiple broken and snapped ribs... My hardware re-connects my spine.. a full grown tree Birch tree landed on top of me and put my head in-between my feet!! I come forth to promise Hope!!! NEVER GIVE IN friend!!

Stem cells in their current state are likely not suitable for paralysis treatment.
