Hi wondering if you got your space done. I have some thoughts for you. First the hieght is a problem, the foam tends to break down with the preasure created by the wieght of the solution. Nex think of dywall when making your walls. the core of drywall is gypsom and by itself is not able to sustain itself, so they layer 7 layers of paper on each side. So lets concider your wals are 6 inch thick with your concrete grid in the center, If you put a membrain on either side that becomes the strenth, second build a form 4 x8 is a standard size and works well. while layin flat you put you membraim on the bottom of the form [ 1/8 door skin would work great for the insideas it would be a finishe surface] pour you aircrete withe the grid in the center now this is where you finish the outside. You can use paper or doorskin or woven roving or just a cotton sheet. After 3 days deform now if you use woven roving you can put fiberglass resin on it for strength and waterproof, you can do this on the paper as well even the door skin. Or you can just paint it with 3 coats of good outdoor paint. Ror your house you can daytoe the slabes to except the steel studs every 2 feet, of course your form now needs to be 2 by 8.

Thank you for posting this. Very good information. I got rather lost when you started to describe the building (around 13:30) because I could not form a mental picture of the building. Would it be possible to show a picture of the building or show a simple sketch diagram. Again, thank you for sharing this information. Very helpful, especially showing the foam gun, sump pump and what the foam should look like, Red & April Off-Grid mentioned you in a video as having the answer for their poor aircrete tests (cold water).

Best to insulate the outside... set up temporary forms to make 5-6 inch wide wall and pour about 3' at a time. Hard surface the product with scratch coat or sand mix... can do likewise for roof. Super insulation and permanent after hard surfaced.

Thanks for this amazing video. It is interesting to see how fluid your mix is. I can see the benefit especially pouring larger walls like pouring ICF, where you could pour around windows. The cool part of seeing your blowout is seeing how little was lost. I have seen a few ICF real life disasters with DIY'ers and in those cases it is catastrophic. The idea of insulating a trailer never crossed mind however would be an inexpensive alternative for people living in mobile homes and modulars.

I fill barrel with foam and add 30 gallons shredded styrofoam as it fills, mixing gently with a shovel and leaving enough room to add 5 gallons of slurry made up of 1/2 bag of portland, which is added at the end of the mix. If making panels/blocks use full bag of portland.

Hi George. Great video. this is what I love about sharing ideas on KZbin because it gets more people testing and sharing their findings. Your mix is actually a little wetter with more cement than my mix just from looking at the video and your mix pours better because of that. The less portland in the mix the better the R value I have found. I had to pack mine into the molds since the mix did not flow well and thus would not fill every nuke and cranny. But the weight of the mix I imagine also helps to push it into the crevices as it gets up to around 3 or 4 feet. People have been building with wood encased in concrete for generations. The wood does fine as long as moisture does not enter the wall. Styro aircrete will absorb water due to the porous nature of the foam in the mix but will dry out if allowed too. What kind of siding are you planning to install?
@ruggedist

Hi Stephen! Glad you watched the video! I have been following your too. I was planing to parge with a layer of landscape fabric. But I also come accross light weight paneling used to build sheds... I may use that. I added a electric wire grid to top of my shredder. I find that the smaller the pieces going in, the easier it is on shredder. Pieces are about 1 " square after three layers of wire, which is mig welding wire for stainless steel.

So simple. What are the benefits? Is it cheaper than fiberglass? What is th R-value?
@ruggedist
@ruggedist Жыл бұрын
Hi and welcome Jay. There are many benefits... it is very inexpensive to make. About $.30-.40 per gallon. (7.5 gallons make a cubic ft.) It flows in every nook and cranny, thus creating a super seal. It can be done from the outside of building. The r value has not been scientifically tested yet but must be in the neighborhood of 6 per inch. Bear in mind that the value is true and does not change with humidity levels as fiberglass bats do. It also encases rot and stops it from spreading further, as no moisture or air will ever reach it again. It is also 100% fireproof and styrofoam beads will never ignite or melt. ( see my video on fire test) lastly, no insects, creepy crawlers or mice will ever get through.
@treenopie
@treenopie Жыл бұрын
@@ruggedist Thanks for that. The rot encasement/arrest is quite interesting. I can see how it solidifies a rotten structural member, but how does it stop the rot from growing? Is the composition waterproof? Will rotten wood dry out once encased?

Thanks for your comment...depending on what your existing exterior is and if it can be removed, you could fill the cavities between the studs with styroaircrete. You could pour around any wiring that exists and when cured, the whole wall can be finished with stucco (parging). This is actually what I am doing to our mobile home and will be uploading new videos soon.

Good point... so ideally you want to weigh the foam...(a plastic peanutbutter jar is 1 litre typically) and should be a net of 95 grams... if you are foaming into a barrel, let's say, the foam should peak about 10-12" before slumping down. If too wet, it will slump down almost level. If too dry, it will start piling higher and higher. Hope that helps!
