Suggested westerns: some John Ford/John Wayne films-- Stagecoach (1939), The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Others, Unforgiven and True Grit (Coen Bros. Version).

Costner talking about his war experience is referencing the Civil War in Missouri, I believe. It spawned Jesse James and other outlaws. Best movje ever about that theater of the war is Ride With the Devil by Ang Lee.

Suggestion: Duvall's first movie, To Kill a Mockingbird and one that earned him an Oscar, Tender Mercies. Horton Foote wrote the screenplay for both and won Oscar's for both.

Great western. Christina you might try Tombstone. Great cast as well, and a story drawn from actual characters and events. Costner did a couple more westerns too. A young Costner was one of the cast members in Silverado. He also played the title character in Wyatt Earp. Lots of great lines in this, as there always is in really good westerns. One that always gets to me is when Charlie and Mose are watching Boss bring in the horses and Mose delivers the line. "Boss sure can cowboy can't he." Enjoy your reaction Christina. Have subbed and will start to look back into the vids you've done. Take care!

More westerns please. Herb Kohler, of the bathroom fixtures company, helped finance this movie and plays the coffee shop owner.

Great reaction to a modern classic. And top marks for not cutting it too short, the way so many reactors do. Westerns are not my favorite genre, but really good ones are valuable. This one is among my top five. Another one you should watch is ‘Unforgiven’ (1992), directed by and starring Clint Eastwood.

Ramius has both keys, but that's dramatic license. The slots the keys fit into are physically too far apart for one person to turn both, and they must be turned at the same time.

Captain Tupolev's submarine, an "attack" sub like Dallas, is part of a Sovet class called Alfa. They are extremely fast underwater, but it is thought some of that speed is a result of reducing the boat's mass by reducing the shielding keeping the crew safe from the radiation of the nuclear reactor. Note - the Soviets have another class of attack sub they call Shchuka, which NATO code-named Akula. Then the Soviets built the missile boats like Red October. And perhaps in a poke at NATO, called these way-bigger vessels Akula. NATO called them Typhoons.

The switch to English is so the writers don't need to translate technical jargon into Russian, and the actors don't have to memorize their lines in Russian. Some viewers also have trouble reading subtitles and keeping up with the onscreen activity at the same time.. Naturally, they would be speaking Russian. As later, when the Dallas party boards Red October, and our POV is with the Americans, they speak in Russian again. For the record, per other reactors, questionable Russian. An officer of Ramius's rank would be sent to language schools at some point in a long career.v

In modern film, dogs are frequently used to assign evil to a character or characters. This does portend well for the dog.

Finse, Norway near the glacier where they filmed Hoth gets as cold as -38C, -37F. In the story, these are ice caves, so they are kept just below freezing. C3P0 makes reference to this C3P0 says Don’t try to blame me. I didn’t ask you to turn on the thermal heater. I merely commented that it was freezing in the princess’s chamber. But it’s supposed to be freezing. How are we going to dry out all her clothes? I really don’t know.

Your first western on the channel? And it's the pinnacle of westerns. It's down hill from here. Well Lonesome Dove miniseries is probably tied there.

The man Ramius kills isn’t a councilor. He’s the “political officer.” He’s there to make sure the officers and crew remain faithful to the USSR. Regarding Sean Connery as Marco Ramius, he was brought in almost at the last minute.

I enjoyed all of the Clancy books I read during this era. This movie follows the book very closely, as far as I can remember (and not the norm for most Hollywood adaptations). The difference is probably only in background information. For example, the DSRV is kinda glossed over in the movie. When the book was written, the DSRV (if memory serves) was a brand new piece of military hardware (much like Typhoon class submarines) that was also an integral part of the CIA plan to capture the Red October, so it was highlighted a bit more.

The pitch meeting that proposed taking the three most popular US western TV shows from the '60s (GUNSMOKE, BANANZA and RAWHIDE) and merging them into one movie. And the result turns Ben, Adam, Hoss and little Joe into cattle drivers getting into a shootout with baddies in the center of town while ripoffs of Doc, Chester and Miss Kitty look on. Enjoyable movie though. Those old formulas still work.

If you find you like Westerns and you like Robert Duvall ( and why wouldn’t you 😊), you should definitely watch and react to Lonesome Dove. Both Robert Duval AND Tommy Lee Jones have declared it their finest work. 4 part series based on a best selling novel. You will love it.

The reason for the flashing light morse code is because anyone can hear a radio signal and intercept it, even a weak signal. The only ones who'll see the flashing lights is the ship or person you sending it to.
@johnmiller7682Күн бұрын
The reason for the static electricity is because the helicopters blades produce a static charge. If you were to grab any part of it, including someone hanging underneath, the charge gets released. That poll they had is used to send the charge to ground.
