Great video! I just started the trip today. In june, it looks a bit different. The elevation gain is quite intense for my level, plus my vintage bike doesn't have efficient enough ratios for the steeper portions, had to walk them! And I'll split the trip in 6 stages, I don't think I can do 4 😅. Thanks for the video, it helped me decide to do the trip too!

Great stuff - well done for giving it a go, it’s a beautiful part of the world and no shame with walking the steeper bits, we’ve all done it and it’s about what works for you - just enjoy yourself and make lots of memories. Thank you for watching and I’m honoured that it’s given you inspiration to do the ride. Have a great time 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🚵

Hi the canal towpath separate from roads and cars - I’d say it’s probably one of the longest if not the longest off road cycle path in the UK - it’s a lovely ride and would suit anyone not comfortable riding on roads. You just need to think about where you’re going to join the cycle path from your car or by train which may involve a short ride on roads etc

It would have been much quicker to cycle up to Speirs Wharf to the north of the City Centre, cycle the short distance of the Port Dundas branch of the Forth & Clyde Canal to the Stockingfield Junction and then turn right onto the Forth & Clyde Canal proper.

Hi - I did consider joining from Glasgow City directly but wanted to ride the route NCN 754 from its start in Clydebank through to Edinburgh.

That's not what remains of Colwyn Bay's pier: it's the first phase of the pier trust's new version of it, using some of what was salvaged from the dismantling of the stricken structures.

How long did this route take, I've always wanted to cycle it, I normally do Glasgow to Lochwinnoch but would love to go the other way
@eurojolly
@eurojolly 11 ай бұрын
The whole 100 miles (Glasgow - Kirkintilloch - Strathblane - Kirkintilloch - Edinburgh) took 10.5 hours of which 8.5 hours was actually moving time, the rest was cafe stops, photo stops and the occasional breather for a drink. My average speed was a comfortable 12 mph. The great thing about this ride is that it’s nearly all off road and flat and there are railway stations along the way should if you need an exit plan or even to break up the ride over a couple of days. Glasgow to Falkirk / Falkirk to Edinburgh for example :) The route to Lochwinnoch is on my to do list, I’ve rode from Glasgow to Johnston but then branched off on the NCN 75 to Greenock, another lovely old railway line.

Just did this route from Chester to Colwyn Bay - a great interesting run to Connah's Quay, but a bit complicated between there and around Flint. The 3 mile climb from Bagillt is a real gasper - i wasn't smiling! with a few nasty little climbs after that too. Along the NW coast is really very pleasant with sea views and lots of cafe/cake stops if inclined.
@eurojolly
@eurojolly 11 ай бұрын
I feel your pain - the hill at Bagillt is a stark contrast to what otherwise is a good flat and mostly off road cycle route to Colwyn Bay - the other option would be continue along the A road and rejoin the path in Prestatyn but it’s busy and wouldn’t suit everyone. Nevertheless views down to the coast and across to the Wirral and Liverpool make the climb all the worth while and not to forget the downhill :)

Is it tarmac or gravel? Or a mix of both? Would really love to cycle this route but I'd be on a road bike. Not the narrowest tires but if I can avoid a puncture that'd be grand. 😊
@eurojolly
@eurojolly Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋🏻 it’s mostly tarmac, at the very start from Clydebank there is some hard packed fine gravel but would be ok with road tyres and then it’s pretty much paved all the way to Edinburgh. One or two places where you need to dismount for tunnels and aqueducts where you’ll find cobbles or gravel. It’s a lovely flat route with plenty of options en route to catch a train if you had a mechanical or wanted to break up the journey 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Hello, great video and great riding by all of you. How did you find the mileage each day, you were puting in some good distances eh. I am planning this next year and am trying to work out achiveable distances each day. Many thanks for any advice. All the best Matthew
@eurojolly
@eurojolly Жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew - many thanks for watching and hopefully it’s inspired you for what’s to come, it’s a beautiful route, a real gem with Loch Tay and The Glenogle Viaduct being most memorable. For us when it came to planning it was really about suitable overnight stops as we were reliant on hotels and B&Bs and somewhere large enough where we could get something to eat and drink at the end of the day and a shop / supermarket was a bonus. As you can imagine the route travels through some pretty remote areas. That said it leaves plenty of great options if you were planning on camping on this route as there are plenty of great wild camping to be had. The stretch out of Dalwhinnie to Blair Atholl via Drumochter is really remote with nothing but the cycle path, A9 and railway line, the climb is gradual but a headwind would be a headache for sure. What I did and usually do on multi day tours is plot the whole route out on Komoot then have a look at the elevation and where the big climbs are, then take in to account the rough milage per day I’m comfortable doing then work around where I can bed down for the night and get a bit of food and I soon find a plan coming together. Take your time, try plan ahead for those all important coffee, cake and lunch stops on the longer days we had more than one and if we thought it was going to be a longer or tougher day climb wise we’d plan to leave earlier just incase of any mechanicals. The route is well sign posted but we had turn by turn on the Garmins - stunning scenery and a route I’d gladly ride again. Good luck and enjoy!

Hi Andy - I had the route preloaded to my phone and used that as navigation to help keep me on track, but otherwise the route was very well sign posted and once you were on the canal towpath it was fairly easy. A nice ride, flat and traffic free, highly recommend it - Steve

As an English only speaking traveller, is it possible to travel by train from say Kiev to London via train easily ?..........how do you even know what train to get on, and is carrying luggage easy ?
@eurojolly
@eurojolly 4 жыл бұрын
HistoPixel Films Hi 👋🏻 have a look here for inspiration www.seat61.com/Ukraine.htm#Kyïv Signs in the main stations in Ukraine are written in English & Ukrainian - you might struggle to find someone who speaks English especially if they’re older. You can download Google Translate and get the “off line download” in Ukrainian and Russian, this will help you and can be used without data. It can be useful to have places or address written in the Cyrillic alphabet too. Most trains have steps to board them so carrying too much luggage can be awkward. Try and allow enough time between trains and keep an eye on the departure boards, station signs to help you reach your connection. You can also find timetable information here www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml tickets can be purchased online for different legs of the journey from various websites including... booking.uz.gov.ua/en/ (Ukrainian Railways) www.oebb.at/en/ (Austrian Railways) www.bahn.com/en/view/index.shtml (German Railways) www.eurostar.com/uk-en (Eurostar) I hope this helps and good luck 👍🏻

Is it hard to sleep on a train?
@eurojolly
@eurojolly 4 жыл бұрын
LeafEater Hi 👋🏻 it really depends on the train, speed, condition of the track and if you’re having to share with strangers. I never have the best night sleep on a train but it certainly helps to have a bed / place to lay down rather than a seat. It also helps if you don’t have to get up too early on arrivals at your destination. Hope this helps 👍🏻
