That's not what remains of Colwyn Bay's pier: it's the first phase of the pier trust's new version of it, using some of what was salvaged from the dismantling of the stricken structures.

Just did this route from Chester to Colwyn Bay - a great interesting run to Connah's Quay, but a bit complicated between there and around Flint. The 3 mile climb from Bagillt is a real gasper - i wasn't smiling! with a few nasty little climbs after that too. Along the NW coast is really very pleasant with sea views and lots of cafe/cake stops if inclined.

I feel your pain - the hill at Bagillt is a stark contrast to what otherwise is a good flat and mostly off road cycle route to Colwyn Bay - the other option would be continue along the A road and rejoin the path in Prestatyn but it’s busy and wouldn’t suit everyone. Nevertheless views down to the coast and across to the Wirral and Liverpool make the climb all the worth while and not to forget the downhill :)
