Plop a Moongel in the centre. It helps reduce overtones (just like putting your finger lightly in the centre).

Why can I play paradiddles on a practice pad or snare, but as soon as I start moving them around the kit they go to shit!
@dayonedrummer
@dayonedrummer Ай бұрын
Great Question! Working Paradiddles and other rudiments on a pad are an awesome way to help develop your hands/keep them strong and warm up. When it comes to kit application things won't just come out. Make sure you are consistent with whatever patterns you come up with around the kit so you can build them into muscle memory. Also the changing surfaces/different sounds of the kit will likely throw you at first, so just go slow and take your time. Hope that helps:)

Exactly. I like how Rob Brown teaches how to tune...use your ears. This seems like a perpetual hell to chase a number. I find most drummer friends of mine tune by ear. But hey, gotta sell gadgets somehow right??

Always my problem. Aiming for 245. Most lugs are there. Adjust the lowest one the tiniest amount. Boom. 247 on most lol I find it so back and forth sometimes. Once they’re close. I use a guitar tuner to match the note. Works like a charm.

Thank for explaining and showing that the bottom head MUST be muted. I've seen many people buy a Tune-Bot, not mute the bottom head, attempt to tune the top head....and then be disappointed with the result and say, "this Tune-Bot thing sucks!!!". For snare and toms, I use a towel or a t-shirt on the table rather than the throne. For the bass drum I use a couch pillow leaning against the opposite head. Another useful "tool" is the 10-page Tune-Bot tuning guide which you can download from their website. It has a LOT of info, but particularly helpful is table on page 2 which gives tunings based on # of toms, table on page 5 which gives several tunings for snare drum batter and reso, and table on page 6 which gives the same for bass drums. Definitely a good starting point, then you can tune everything up or down depending on the sound you want. tune-bot.com/tunebottuningguide.pdf

I use an app called idrum tune pro. I think theres a free version, but I ended up paying for the pro version. It was only like 20 bucks. Totally worth it! I also have a Tune Bot. I think the app is way better. I also have a dial tuner. I still cant tune my freaking drums.
