Hey what's up everyone!
Today I want to take a few minutes to show you all a super cool paradiddle exercise that I've been working on. The exercise that I'm going to demonstrate is straight from matt Halpern. For those of you who don't know who Matt is yet, he plays in a really great progressive rock band called Periphery and was featured on the July Cover of Modern Drummer Magazine, he also just performed at the meinl festival a few weeks ago along with the likes of Mike Johnston, Benny Greb , JP Bouvet, Jost Nickel and more. I definitely recommend checking him and his band periphery out , plus they have a new record that will be out This Tuesday July the 3rd. I saw Matt explain this exercise in a video and I found it to be a fantastic way to strengthen the paradiddle with some flavor that eventually has a lot of application to the drum set. But before we progress to the drum set it's important to be able to execute this exercise on one sound source such as your practice pad or your snare drum. Today I'm going to be using my practice pad because it's Sunday and on the other side of the wall right behind me are my neighbors. I'll make a part II video at some point in the near future.
