Spot on David, and yet another ‘mental building block’ - I rarely get to the first at my club and think about how I’ve played it well? And how I bring that experience to my shot

Thanks David, very helpful as always. I've been using your advice from previous videos about how to hit wedges and measuring my average distances at the driving range. Now when I stand over the ball on the course I am confident that I have the right club and can hit it onto the green. I'm working on breaking 90 and am getting closer!

Excellent advice David. I can absolutely relate to wanting to rush the shot. Last round I warmed up really well on the grass tees at the range but as soon as we got on the first tee and the scoring started the tension got into my forearms. My playing partner told me I looked “stiff”. He was right. It took me 6 holes to fall into my relaxed swing. How do you take the nice fluid swing on the range into competition? Is there anything you do when you sense you want to rush or force the shot? Keep up the great work. Enjoy all your videos - especially the short game like this one and putting. I’m now playing a mini game each round to see how often I can score 54 or less from 100 yards over 18 holes.

You say that this green is 3% slope. Thus 3x12 is36 inches. How do know what percentage for each green?
@TheResourcefulCoach
@TheResourcefulCoach 4 күн бұрын
Every green has different slopes, ranging from 1 to 5. It’s experience from learning the slopes. Nowadays phones have a spirit level on them, use the % setting. Then as with everything in this game go ‘practice the skill’

Unfortunately there aren't many who can hit it 300 yards, unless its downhill downwind, me included. Get the shots in play and have a solid short game and the scores will look after themselves.

As usual, another great video, David. I’ve taken to playing solo practice rounds (when time permits) with my primary ball to keep track of my score, plus 2-3 extra balls to repeat shots so I can remember the setup and swing for each. This has helped me build a “memory” to improve confidence and consistency. Also, for poorly executed shots I can get a “do-over” to build a feel for the correct swing and tempo for that shot. This also has helped my confidence when approaching similar shots.

As a relative novice to playing on Main Courses (21.8 handicap from the best 4 of 14 cards so far) I'd be tempted to add (Set-up) "Checklist" as a subpoint to Clarity. Whilst I don't want distracting swing thoughts, I do find it very helpful to have specific points to check in my set-up for whatever shot I am (attempting) to play; whether that is from the tee, approach, shortgame or putting.

Great instruction. When Nick Faldo was in the process of rebuilding his swing he would manipulate the club to the parallel position with no body movement or rotation. He would “set the wrists” (manipulate the club so that the shaft was 90 degrees and parallel to the ground) from address. Then he’d simply rotate the body to complete the backswing.

The very interesting and useful information. I was taught to address the ball with the driver in the hovered position, but it was never explained why, and I’ve never given it any thought as to why it’s different to that with an iron. I’d hazard a guess and say 75% of the time I address the ball hovered, the rest from the ground. I’ll be addressing from the hovered position in the future - hopefully it will result in improved consistency with the driver. Cheers 😀

“You can’t teach feel” By teaching someone to grip the club lighter when playing finesse shots around the green. By teaching a player to set up differently than you would to play a long game shot, all increases “feel”. Teaching 101 Good video 👍🏻

We also need to keep in mind that those "pros" accomplish these stats with the benefit of practicing putting for 6 hours per session (what I heard). As opposed to most of us that maybe spend 10 minutes on the practice green as a "warm-up" to our weekly 18 holes round.

10 handicap here…all of this is such great advice. I suggest every player keep a notebook of their rounds if they really want to improve. It shows pretty clearly where one shot turns into 2 or 3 or even 4. Next years goal is to play off a 5 or below. The stats I’ve kept for this year will map out my areas of improvement starting in spring. I love the common sense advice in your coaching. Good work

@@TheResourcefulCoach Hi again, today was officiating at a district event, so managed to get in some practice in on their putting green. Thanks again David.

I think golfers look at the pga highlights reel which shows only the leaders holing everything. In reality the pros do miss but we never see them unless you go to the tournaments. More golfers miss from 10 ft because they try and make the putt, hitting at ramming speed, and miss next one back.
@TheResourcefulCoach
@TheResourcefulCoach 10 күн бұрын
Golf on TV doesn't help amateurs because its the best shots, not all of them, so we think they should be holing everything, and that doesn't happen.
