I'm an econometrician and the industry standard in my field in Stata. When I was biostatistician however I used a lot of SPSS, and when I worked for the government on monthly macroeconomic data it was SAS all day long.

Do these people brush their teeth with a chainsaw? Each tool has its pros and cons and you're not going to find a single carpenter, painter, dentist or chef who uses one tool for everything. I'm a statistician and I use Python with Excel to extract/scrape/download, clean and prepare the data before I analyze it with R. I would never use Python for anything beyond a simple regression model, and you should learn both Python and R. However, if you think that Python and R are the only tools you're in for a surprise. There's also Stata, SAS, SPSS, JMP, Matlab, Minitab, Gretl and Fortran and I've used them all.

I'm finding it difficult to download the dataset on your GitHub. Has anyone been able to download the dataset for practice?
@LukeBarousse2 күн бұрын
Two things: 1. ARe you downloading the full file set via zip (that's the recommended option) 2. Make sure you have enough space on your computer for the download

I am taking the Google Data Analytics course and I am to the point where they want me to use BigQuery for the database stuff. Should I just continue using Postgres and VScode instead since I have done this? I am a newbie so I don't want to waste time learning something I will not use.
@LukeBarousse5 күн бұрын
I don't really feel your time will be wasted with BigQuery; It'll give you familiarity with how cloud SQL data base options work and you should be able to learn it quicker since you have background in SQL and Postgres

In the formulas section, regarding filtering the jobs you have enough experience for (Cell L3), wouldn't we want to highlight the jobs that have 5 years or LESS experience required? The way you did it, you only showed which jobs that needed 5 years or MORE experience. To fix it, I just changed the formula from "=$C$15<=C3" which means my experience is LESS than or equal to the required amount... I changed it to "$C$15>=C3", so that my experience is Greater than or Equal to the amount required.

Steve Jobs in the Lost Steve Jobs Interview: "I think everyone should learn to code." I agree. Some fun with Python: import sympy x = sympy.symbols('x') f = x**2 - 3*x - 18 print(sympy.factor(f)) (x - 6)*(x + 3)

Luke, I know you may not answer this as you havea very busy channel I am a 18 year Army Veteran Senrio NCO with I would say a wide breadth of the soft skills. These skills include leadership and mentorship, communication, process improvement, analytical thinking, collaboration and Teamwork, Adaptability, and Business Acumen. While completing a Dual Masters in ERP and MIS in realized I had GREAT interest in things like data Analystics and that a life in Data Science is where I wanted to challenge myself. Sooooo The question I have is with your experience and knowledge do you feel a career pivot to learning the skills needed to become a Data Scientist over the next 12 months is a feasible and achieveable goal? In addition is starting on the Data Analytst path a good start or do you suggest a different path?
@LukeBarousse6 күн бұрын
Definitely achievable in 12 months. My recommendation is start learning some skills and then start looking for both Data Analyst and Data Scientist jobs, seeing what fits your desire. The main thing though is start applying to jobs BEFORE you are ready. The job search can be a grind so the earlier you start and more experience you get with it the better.
@G.Threats5 күн бұрын
@LukeBarousse wow thanks for responding. Yes I'm currently completing a Dual MBA as I spoke of and trying to align some of the remaining courses to address Data related courses. In addition im studying on my own to become more familiar with the topics that most pertaining like SQL, Python, R, Tableau, and a lot of SAP as it's heavily used in Supply Chain, the current field im in. I will be using a lot of your content to get smarter and Practice daily.
