I was born in the 50s in east London. The old man, God bless him introduced Rob to me. Comedy gold to us old gits.

This is the most beautiful song ive heard. I wish i was born in the late 1900s so i could hear this song everywhere. This makes tears fall from my eyes from nostalgia even though i wasnt born in the 1900s. Al Bowlly was a truly talented man. I hope this song will be preserved for many generations to come and Even if we arent alone in space, i hope something hears this song and understands it.

Beautiful. They just don't write or perform like this any more. A refreshingly full adult woman voice that doesn't have too much vibrato.

The haunting, melancholy melody of Vera's voice quintessentially defines the agony of the WWII era and the devastating conditions the "forgotten army" in Burma was required to withstand. The "It's A Lovely Day Tomorrow" episode of World at War provided an almost poetic understanding of that pain.

After I became a Dad's Army fan almost twenty years ago, I bought a CD with all of these songs on the show. I used to sing them with my husband and later I sung them to my baby.

London Pride has been handed down to us. London Pride is a flower that's free. London Pride means our own dear town to us, And our pride it for ever will be. Woa, Liza, See the coster barrows, Vegetable marrows And the fruit piled high. Woa, Liza, Little London sparrows, Covent Garden Market where the costers cry. Cockney feet Mark the beat of history. Every street Pins a memory down. Nothing ever can quite replace The grace of London Town. INTERLUDE There's a little city flower every spring unfailing Growing in the crevices by some London railing, Though it has a Latin name, in town and country-side We in England call it London Pride. London Pride has been handed down to us. London Pride is a flower that's free. London Pride means our own dear town to us, And our pride it for ever will be. Hey, lady, When the day is dawning See the policeman yawning On his lonely beat. Gay lady, Mayfair in the morning, Hear your footsteps echo in the empty street. Early rain And the pavement's glistening. All Park Lane In a shimmering gown. Nothing ever could break or harm The charm of London Town. INTERLUDE In our city darkened now, street and square and crescent, We can feel our living past in our shadowed present, Ghosts beside our starlit Thames Who lived and loved and died Keep throughout the ages London Pride. London Pride has been handed down to us. London Pride is a flower that's free. London Pride means our own dear town to us, And our pride it for ever will be. Grey city Stubbornly implanted, Taken so for granted For a thousand years. Stay, city, Smokily enchanted, Cradle of our memories and hopes and fears. Every Blitz Your resistance Toughening, From the Ritz To the Anchor and Crown, Nothing ever could override The pride of London Town.

They say there's a troopship just leaving Bombay, bound for old Blighty shore Heavily laden with time expired men, bound for the land they adore There's many an airman just finishing his time, there's many a twerp signing on You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean, so cheer up my lads, bless 'em all Bless 'em all, bless 'em all, the long and the short and the tall Bless all the sergeants and W. O. ones Bless all the corporals and their blinking sons 'Cause we're saying goodbye to them all, as back to their billets they crawl You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean, so cheer up my lads, bless 'em all They say if you work hard you'll get better pay We've heard all that before Clean up your buttons and polish your boots Scrub out the barrack room floor There's many a rookie has taken it in, hook line and sinker and all You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean So cheer up my lads bless 'em all Bless 'em all, bless 'em all, the long and the short and the tall Bless all the sergeants and W. O. ones Bless all the corporals and their blinking sons 'Cause we're saying goodbye to them all, as back to their billets they crawl You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean, so cheer up my lads, bless'em all Now they say that the Sergeant's a very nice chap, oh what a tale to tell Ask him for leave on a Saturday night and he'll pay your fare home as well There's many an airman has blighted his life through writing rude words on the wall You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean So cheer up my lads bless 'em all bless 'em all, the long and the short and the tall Bless all the sergeants and W. O. ones Bless all the corporals and their blinking sons 'Cause we're saying goodbye to them all, as back to their billets they crawl You'll get no promotion this side of the ocean, so cheer up my lads, bless'em all Nobody knows what a twerp you have been, so cheer up my lads bless 'em all
