hmmm, just found this, at £177.59 inc delivery i don't think i should have to cut and bend the kit to make it fit my van! this really should be a bolt on and done thing.

Just fitted mine after buying from 'The Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show' today. All went ok but seems very tight when pushing closed on the final inch and when pulling open at the beginning as well. Hopefully will loosen up.

Not as smooth as the factory cup holder.. in fact don’t attempt to pull it out unless you workout 😂 going to strip it out again tomorrow and hopefully find the cause

Yeah I noticed this. I found the traveler wheels were really tight in the Van-X unit, I tried adding a small amount of grease but it didn't seem to help. Did you manage to make it easier or did it just get easier over time using it?

I removed mine recently and it took me less than 10 mins doing it casually, you only need to remove enough torx screws to be able to pull the dash trims off enough to access the two screws that retain the ashtray assy to the dash, to remove panels or do it the way they show you in this video is madness, there’s a multiplug for the cigarette socket, you can easily transfer the whole old lighter and loom over and without any cutting.

@@MrGrimtech remove the fusebox lid which will reveal four torx screws to be removed, then there’s one torx at the bottom of the trim below the gear lever (hard to explain but it’s approximately where your passenger’s right foot would be, near the hanging hook) then there’s two to remove on the black trim under the passenger side dash, you literally only need to remove seven torx screws which will allow you to pull the LH dash trim and gear lever trim away far enough to access the two torx screws that secure the cup holder assy to the dash, it probably won’t even take 5 mins to do, there’s no need to start removing panels.

That’s not the way to do it. Never cut your loom. There’s a plug.

Where are you supposed to put all the excess wiring and extra plug on the barn door version? Cant go behind light, no room. Mines is dangling below! Will have to waterproof it or something. Advice?

I purchased the kit, and it does look good, however functionality wise it’s crap. Once you get to use it, you understand how cheap it actually is. Latch system is crap, and the flap won’t stay up, once opened. You basically need both hands to operate it. The space inside is very limited, but that’s part of a VW design flaw. One more thing, the kit is waaay overpriced for what it is.

I believe they keep the original in to act as a resistor because led will pick up low voltage and can flicker/blink. Just wire a resistor in or use canbus error free

I bought a red one 2 years ago and unfortunately the colour fades afterwards when a bit of sun gets on it, it’s a shade of pink now, shame.... But it looks good new
