You’re absolutely right and that’s why I got one of the original ones like you. I find the 143 grain projectile works best in mine, but, I’m now looking at reloading to improve accuracy. I love the rifle and wouldn’t change it. I’m not sure how many units they have sold here in Australia, but it’s good to have something different. I’ll be looking at the Garmin too for reloading data.

Yeah, I love Sig Cross platform. I do find the barrel to be very picky about what it likes. Seems to like the Hornady 143g ELD-X and 140g Hornady International. Almost everything else I struggle to get nice, tight, consistent groups with it. Buy love the platform for sure.

Thanks for the video mate. I have the 6.5 CM Sig Cross too. Very interesting to see how much volatility is lost through barrel length. It would be good to keep in touch and refer ammo loads with you to what shoots well as there is not much info on the Cross in Australia.
@2AToday12 күн бұрын
I think with the earlier cross models sig was making a compromise on length and weight because they wanted it to be a highly portable rifle for hunting. Velocity and length lost out in their design. But then with later more specialized models like the PRS they chose a barrel that can maximize the potential of the 6.5 round. Personally I think for the original models they should have done 18” for .308 and 20” for 6.5 (vs 16” and 18” respectively).
@2AToday13 күн бұрын
Great video! This garmin is one of the coolest products from any company in a long time. As for the velocity, especially with the superformance, the velocity they state is with a much longer barrel than the cross. 24 inches, they follow the SAAMI test protocol.

My 18" 6.5CM likes 143 and 147 hornady. I have not worked up a load development to see how accurate I can get it, but .75 moa from factory hornady is good enough that it's boringly accurate at 712 yards as that's the farthest I've been able to stretch it on a reduced size ipsc steel target

@MD-MDMDMD3 ай бұрын
Well I wouldn't call my Cross super accurate. It really doesn't like most types of ammunition/projectiles. Best I have found is Hornady ELD-X and 140gr Hornady Custom International, which is a Spire Point (I don't believe this is sold in the US). Those factory loads I can get just under 1MOA. However most other brands tend to be 1 - 1.5 MOA, which isn't great. I am thinking of buying a replacement barrel, but maybe go to a 7mm-08 or the Fury. Not sure yet.

I came here looking for info on this rifle as far as weight, functioning (feeding & ejection), accuracy and what kind of material the stock is made out of.. I am also interested in the 6.5 PCR.. You fed the rounds one at a time and had problems closing the bolt on all of them except the last one. Why didn't you feed them from the magazine ?? Your groups @ 200m didn't look that good, but of course you didn't measure them.. Overall your review sucked. CONGRADULATIONS

Copper bullets have to be loaded differently to jacketed lead bullets. It's like treating petrol as though it was diesel. Most people load their jacketed lead bullets into, just off, or close to the lands. This will always lead to poor results with any copper bullet. All copper bullets, including the OEPs like a 0.050" to 0.060" jump to the lands. Try it, and you will improve your results significantly. Following the manufacturer's instructions is usually a good place to start and this is what it says on the website. How would your TD 42 go if you put 98 octane in it ? As for quality, the OEP's are setting new standads in competeition: by those willing to learn how to use them.

Don't bag it out unless you have played around with powder and seating depth. I did extensive testing on my Tika t3 270 WSM with OuterEdge Hunting 132 gr BBT. The only bullets I normally use are bergers 130, 140, and 150 as I only have the factory barrel 1:10 twist. The outer edges ended up 1 moa, my best berger load is .5 moa with VLD hunting. For a hunting load that is acceptable and you are supporting a local manufacturer. I believe the target outer edges pills are the ones to test next when I get my new heavy LR barrel for the Tika I am customizing into 7 mm PRC.

@@MD-MDMDMD - "IF" your rifle barrel has not shot "moly-coated" bullets before - the "moly-coating" will most certainly affect the initial group size (until the rifling itself becomes attuned to the moly). added: I noticed this from their web-site after the above was posted: "An advanced proprietary dry lubricant. We DO NOT use molybdenum disulphide (ms2) as it can build up in the barrel and be difficult to remove. Our product is not toxic, is very easy to clean out and will not harm your barrel." YMMV, but I'm an old shooter here and "if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck - it's a duck!" and their coating appears to have all the advantages and disadvantages of a normal molybdenum disulphide (ms2) bullet so my comment above is still valid.

Yes, which is one of the reasons I went with the Sig Cross. The instruction manual shows you how to switch barrel, and the calibre needs to be in the same short action family of cartridges.
