Even though he's talking about athletes, any martial artist can benefit from these teachings.
GSP: The best way is to get the belt, then duck the next challenger, and quit.

Basically try to find an optimal training pattern but also listen to your body. He had coaches tell him to rest as they saw him over train but overall being aware of your own physical and mental state
@ZachS-PFW12 күн бұрын
There is a sweet spot in regards to training volume and intensity. If you're under that sweet spot, your effort is too low. If you're over that sweet spot, your effort is too high. Being too high is worse because it'll likely (eventually) lead to injury. If you're injured, you'll really fall under the sweet spot of volume and intensity. There are three simple ways he checks if he is overtrained: 1) He considers how he feels (mental check). 2) He measures his heart rate (if it's high, he needs rest). 3) Vertical test. A good coach can see whether you need more rest or more effort. Don't be lazy, don't lie to yourself, and don't get yourself hurt.
