Not sure who runs this profile but what tug toy do you recommend. Is there one?
@geminik-9obedienceinc258Ай бұрын
We use the double or single handle obedience tug. You can find it at www.gk9gear.com.

Just wondering, and this is just personal preference; but can’t teaching the dog to bark end up backfiring and become an unwanted or attention seeking behavior?
@geminik-9obedienceinc258Ай бұрын
No, not if you've established a leadership role in your relationship with your dog.

That dog is a professional,proper training is the key, I bet at home he is a loving good boy, I would love to have that doggo for myself, I would spoil him rotten but also keep him in proper shape, well done training him 🇨🇦👍

Rewatching this as I’m moving to a new level of expectations with my younger dog. Couple of questions: 1. When do you introduce the “heel” command? Trying to pick up from the video but you don’t always say “heel” specifically. 2. My older dog doesn’t like being right beside me, he is slightly behind and a step away. Should I force him to be close or just be happy he gives the focus? Thanks as always. Will need to come back for a refresher with my boys in the summer.
@geminik-9obedienceinc2582 ай бұрын
You can introduce the command right from the beginning. I find it doesn't make any difference. The dog will pick it up. For your older dog, if you're using bait, circling to your right with the bait at a slow to moderate pace can help provided you're using a high value treat.
@fbeserve2 ай бұрын
@@geminik-9obedienceinc258 thank you. One more question, in the sequence when do you use the word “heel” to issue the command when training? So part of phase one, should I even say “heel” or only after we start movement as part phase 2? Again appreciate this amazing advice and direction.
@geminik-9obedienceinc2582 ай бұрын
Issue the Heel command half a second before stepping off. Always remember, your command precedes the behavior.

Love your videos! But I have a issue with my newest pup, that I have not had with any of my other shepherds. I can not for the life of me get him to move with me. It’s easy to get him into correct position, he sits straight 8/10 times. But I have issues with both getting him to elongate his neck upwards, and even if I start super slow, walking in place, and then slowly moving my left foot forward, he will not move with me. Been working on this for weeks now.

Is he very food motivated, or does he prefer a toy? Also, what type of food do you use with him?

Truly a masterclass on this topic! So many things to consider but love the way that you have broken down the components. Challenging because the approach to use is a factor of what you are trying to teach the dog, their temperament, and the experience of the dog. Will need this video as a quick reference for the future. Thank you!

With fixed or variable can you safely change the type of reward, food, affection, toy? Or is it better to just stick to the same reward whether doing fixed or variable?
@geminik-9obedienceinc2584 ай бұрын
Initially, when using a fixed ratio, I tend to use the same reward. Once the dog learns the behavior and is on a variable schedule, then I can change up the rewards.

Hello, I enjoyed your video. I am preparing to participate in the IGP competition. I am currently raising a Malinois and a Wolf Shepherd. I was wondering if I should give up my Malinois because it does not have a drive. After watching your video, I found out what the problem was. It was a great help
