Thanks for the info, the buildings were only on loan for that show, they usually reside on my colleagues home layout.

I built the same layout about 25 years ago with M track

Can I buy an 00-gauge V4 anywhere?
@melpaul60497 ай бұрын
Not really, the only V4 currently available is this Judith Edge partial kit. The kit only provides the chassis, running plate, cab and tender so requires you to make the boiler from scratch. This one took me roughly a year to build working for a few hours most weekends.

Looks excellent on your layout with nice wide curves.

This was taken on the Wanganui Model Railway Club layout, and it really does look good there. Shame the camera was struggling a bit for focus under the lighting. I'm still trying to track down some H0 scale Mk1 coaches to go with it, but in the meantime just have to imagine it's on a visit to Germany.

I use to have a Märklin layout but as a result of the limited space I changed to N-gauge. Now that I'm getting older and my eye site gets worse I struggle with the landscaping and the maintenance of the small loco's. What I also would like to have is running cars witch in my case isn't possible anymore unless I would start over again. Have fun with your landscaping. Cheers Jef

Thanks Jef, we're currently making some adjustments and alterations to make operating easier then we'll be into the scenery.

Great stuff isn't it? Marklin is a relatively recent addition to my interests and it has a charm all of its own, particularly when using M track.
Nice toy, are you allowed to play with it without dad?
@melpaul60498 ай бұрын
Yes, given that dad passed away over 20 years ago. I can't imagine he'd have any issue with me playing with the train set unsupervised.

Very nice. It reminds me of a display layout from Rivarossi from the 70s. Figure 8 over under with station on the top, diagonal, and returns going under. It was a demonstration layout, but after a few years of shows, it was put in storage. It was found and donated to a club in Brescia, and they were supposed to restore it. Not sure what happened to it after that. I was looking to do a layout myself using Marklin equipment, but using digital (Digitrax - I have a lot of it) and JMRI software to control it. But I have no space inside to build it. Only outside in the back yard, but that is not very good for M track and electronics. Oh Well!
@melpaul60499 ай бұрын
Thanks, we opted for this design as it allows a reasonable length of run in relatively small space. A bit unfortunate that you don't have space to pursue the hobby as you'd like to but certainly not a good idea to try M Track outside, rust might become a problem.

nice layout! nice automation and magnorail :)
@melpaul6049 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, there's still quite a lot of work to do but it performed well on its first public outing. The road utilises Faller car system and is a very simple loop, Magnarail is a bit bulky for the available space.

Hello, that is a great layout !!! I’ve been planning many layouts with SCARM for 2 years for my currently available space (160 x 46 inches), and this diagonal station with front & rear ramps to a shadow station is a recurring theme in my designs…
@melpaul604911 ай бұрын
Hello, thanks for the comment. This layout is based on a Marklin Z scale track plan. The lower level is more or less a mirror of the top, with the same passing loop arrangement.
@tomsmaerklintrainlayout674211 ай бұрын
@@melpaul6049 thanks for the info. I initially planned the same, but then came up with a design that allows to store 12-14 trains in the shadow station.

An odd question, and given this was a good number of years ago a bit out there, but would you happen to have any images of the chassis of this being built? I acquired one of these built, but the motor and gearing is…very much vintage and needs replacing.
@melpaul60492 жыл бұрын
Hello, Go to the LNER Forums and look at the Paul's Workbench thread. On page 4 there is a photo showing in it with the body removed, you can see the Mashima Motor and Comet gearbox and how it is located in the chassis.👍

Hi, how did you build the LNER P1? I'm considering building one myself. What chassis did you use?
@melpaul60493 жыл бұрын
This one has a scratch built chassis and modified Hornby body. Check out PDK kits, they have a P1 available. Also have a look at the KNER forums, search for P1 and you'll find a PDK build.

Gresley's final design - often joked about as being a Rolls Royce for a Ford car's job! The final conjugated valve-gear design also. Gorgeous little engines...
