Good idea. I would add a piece of wood (pine) through centre to stop bowing, or a hinged vertical broomstick which attached from end of pipe to ground. A fibreglass tent "stick" would be ok. In hot weather the plastic gets soft.

I saw in the video that the jeep patriot is supported on the jscan app, but do you know if they all have the same options under the adaptations tab on the app? I want to try this but i dont know if it would be a waste of time

Hi Joseph! They adaptation options won’t be exactly the same between the Patriot and other supported models, but as far as I can tell from the demo settings in the JScan app, LED/HID light settings like those described in this video appear to be present!

@@completepete I completed the reel and am excited to try it out. I bought a stainless steel bolt at Ace without realizing it wouldn't be very magnetic. I might see about how it would be to magnetize the bolt, or maybe I'll buy a magnet and attach it inside the reel. The rope coiled up nicely on the reel and is no longer a mess. By the way, I used to scuba dive sometimes from a kayak (I think it was an Ocean Kayak Scupper Pro TW (Tank Well) that I bought from Bass Pro). Your video reminded me of that.

My question is, what do I need to do this with my 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss. I have the Lasfit lights installed for by my high and low beams and my low beams will turn on just fine but then will turn off and then back on. Sometimes only one comes back on. Lasfit sent me adapters to possible help with the issue but the way they want me to install them is kind of shady. If I can do it through adaptations that would be a big help. However, I do not know which app would work.
@completepete
@completepete Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching RCWing! To my knowledge, there is not a trusted, publicly available application for Chevy that serves the same purpose as JScan for CDJR or ForScan for Ford. To help troubleshoot this further, could you provide some additional details including: (1) Does your vehicle have halogen or HID bulbs from the factory, (2) How long are the low beams running before they turn off/turn back on sporadically, (3) when the low beams turn back on (one, or both), is there a certain period of time until they will turn back on, and (4) What method is LasFit asking you to use to install their adapters? I would imagine that CANBUS/AntiFlicker adapters are needed in your situation, but I'd like to work through some of the questions I posed above to help identify any other solutions.

@@completepete lasfit sent me two canbus' to install. However, the way they want me to install them is by cutting the dust cap and using a crap ton of electrical tape to secure everything. I'm an aircraft electrician by trade and the fix they wanted me to try is not something I would do on an aircraft.

@@completepeteyes, my truck came with halogen light bulbs. It's usually with the first 60 seconds of driving they will either both turn off and both come on, one turn off and come back on, or one turn off and not come back on. If both or one dosen't come back on I just flip the light switch from auto to on and it usually fixes the issue.
@completepete
@completepete Ай бұрын
Did your purchase include LasFit’s dust covers with the integrated fan, or are they suggesting you cut into the stock rubber dust cover? I’d be curious to see, through a temporary install, if the canbus adapters solve the issue - you could probably design a more efficient/clean way to add them into the loop than what the company is suggesting if that seems to solve your problem, or, perhaps another manufacturer makes bulbs with integrated canbus. If I were troubleshooting, I’d remove the dust cover and hook up one of the canbus adapters (fastened with zip ties or tape temporarily) and assess the result. Does your truck have daytime running lights? Often, DRLs run at a lower intensity which can produce odd interactions with aftermarket LED bulbs. Does the problem occur if you turn the lighting dial to “on” before the bulbs turn off the first time? I’m wondering if the “auto” feature is somehow playing a role.

Thanks for watching! A number of folks have found that CanBus Anti-Flicker modules are helpful to prevent this issue, however, if the bulbs are of good quality, the method described in this video to change the configuration of your vehicle’s computer may be successful. In your case, I would purchase a good anti-flicker module and see if installing that in-line with your bulbs stops the problem. If that doesn’t work, move on to the method I describe in this video. Largely, everything you need can be obtained from Amazon and returned if you find it doesn’t work, with the exception of the JScan license which you can’t get a refund for.

How did you mount the non folding j hooks? Are they made to be bolted? Everything i see is made to clamp. Do you have a link to these?
@completepete
@completepete 3 ай бұрын
Hi Keith - thanks for watching! I’d say they aren’t inherently designed to be used in this manner, but no significant modification was necessary. I used these hooks from Amazon [ a.co/d/27NR4JV ] and simply used a hammer to remove the existing (4) bolts that held the body of the hooks together. I didn’t attach the accompanying clamps, and instead marked the wood cross members for drilling using the now-empty carriage bolt holes. I picked up some longer bolts that were the same profile as the original set, and used them to bolt the hooks to the wood.

Great idea. What I do is lift my boat at one end then get underneath and balance it on my head like an African woman. Then I turn towards the car getting one side of the boat on. At this point I usually swear about something like a strap in my way or something from the boat hitting me in the face. Then i work my way to the back of the boat and put it on the car. Then I stop for a few seconds and curse kayaking. Then strap it up and go.

One thing to note about using scrapers to finish your stock vs. sandpaper. I heard Mitch Yates speak and he says a scraped stock will take stain better than a sanded stock. I'll be looking into the versa vise, looks like a nice setup.

The dent in the stock is the result of using parallel jaws, you really must get a pattern makers angle jaw vice. You may be a bit tight on your trigger plate, the wood will move over time which can cause cracking of the stock, not sure how dry these stock blanks are. The screw hole n top of the butt plate is absolutely perfect, it means that when you draw the screw up it will force the butt plate up against the stock leaving no gap. Chris B.

Well! That wasn't too difficult was it? I find that inletting black very messy and hard to get a good indication with, a sooty lamp/candle gives a far better coverage of even deposit, there is normally a few thou gap at the rear of the tang, but the back of the breach plug must be fully touching the head of the stock, I can see this is making you very relaxed after a hard day at work, it just makes you switch off. Chris B.

All good things for a build project! However, one really important item you have left out is an angle jaw "pattern makers/guitar maker vice, you will find that most things you need to hold in a gun build are not parallel, so one of these is essential, you will wonder how you got by without one for years, they are quite cheap, but essential, the main spring vice needs to be applied to the spring when the lock is at full cock, but I am sure you know that, good luck with your build, and enjoy, this will be the first of many, s you will get good use from your tools! What if your siding installer didn't bring the junction box out? Can I mount it directly to the mount block?? The junction box is still mounted behind new Tyvek, insulated board and Dutch lap with the wires coming out neatly through the mounting block center hole (approx 1.75" diam). I can see the box is a few inches to the side under the siding so I can't pull it out to the mount block. Not without popping siding off.

Hi Mike, it sounds to me like your truck thinks your bulbs are out since they draw significantly less power than traditional halogen bulbs. I’d suggest CANBUS bulbs or a CANBUS adapter which will trick the vehicle into thinking the bulbs are drawing the correct amount of power. Most high quality bulbs have this technology built in, but some do require dedicated adapters. What brand bulbs did you buy? I’d check out Diode Dynamics to see if they have anything that fits your needs.
