The Immediate song was written after they went to Iceland, & were fascinated by the Viking Invasions, especially into England. It actually was written as a joke, but fans loved it, & yes used in several movies.

They didn't really "sweat" the songs on this album. But like Pepper (and even side 2 of Abbey Road), one ends up losing the effect of all the songs together by evaluating them independently. But also - most people don't listen to albums anymore, they listen to individual songs, so I can understand wanting to listen to it like that.

I wouldn't say Ringo was the best drummer of all time, but at the same time he's still in my top ten because there are so many things he's done (IN THE BEATLES) that I love for his feel. I could rip him apart technically in a number of his recordings, but.....the feel, man. "Come Together" is one of my favorite performances of his.

Don't bother with the remix. Remaster is fine.

Also, "Rita" has one of my favorite lyrics - "When it gets dark I tow your heart away"....what a great word substitution!

It's funny about this album. I've always been a Beatles aficionado, but there was a long time where I didn't listen to Pepper - it's not a "song" album - it's not a concept album either, but it's a "mood" album. I rediscovered it when I was about 40, when one day my 4 year old daughter came home from preschool singing "We're Sgt Pepper's Lonely heart's club band...." - I put it on, and watched her "interpretive dance" for the entire album....and I "re-discovered" it as a joyful work (mostly!), meant to be listened to in one sitting. Yes, for solid songs, Revolver and Abbey Road are much better, but - there's just something about Pepper as a whole that stays with me. It's impossible to evaluate it with the same criteria as one would evaluate Revolver or Abbey Road. IMO of course...

FYI, Sun King and MMM were recorded as a piece, so were Polythene Pam and "Bathroom Window. Note how Paul cranks up his bass amp but keeps his bass volume down on "Sun King" - then pushes up the volume (distortion) for Mean Mr. Mustard. But you can hear some distorted notes on Sun King peak through...

Absolutely one of their best albums, and one of my favorites. It was their first album to really incorporate song-blending, and establishes their core sound for the next few years. From what I know, they initially wanted this album to continue from the opening medley and have the same beat the whole time with every song fading in and out over top of it. Of course, they didn't do that, and it's much more interesting that they change things up after the medley, but they kind of tried again with Nonagon, so this album (or at least the opening medley) is kind of a precursor to Nonagon. "Cellophane" was the lead single for this album, and it was backed with the song "The Wholly Ghost", which is currently the only non-album song the band has ever released, including some of their super early singles since those made it onto Teenage Gizzard, though that's a compilation album. Unfortunately, the studio version is region locked, and I'm not sure which regions have it. Interestingly, Satan Speeds Up seems to have a direct transition into The Wholly Ghost, so it seems like it was cut from the album at some point. Though it does make sense that they did that, it would've been the worst song on the album and made the pacing a bit awkward if it was placed after Satan.

They also never used session musicians because they could do it all. They had JPJ who played many instruments and Robert Plant played harmonica. They sre the GOATS!

Loved your reaction to Revolver. What people seem to miss about The Beatles is their playful humor. Yellow Submarine is a children's song that was number one world wide. What other band had that kind of reach? Answer: None. It's a small but significant part of why The Beatles are great. Also, I agree with you about the stereo. I like it.

The audio balancing is a little awkward for this one, because this reaction is downloaded from a stream! Also, the pacing is a little awkward because Kendrick's copyright is STRICT! Like and sub tho, we're on our way to 2k 🗿

You Shook Me, was almost a direct cover of Muddy Water's "You shook me". From the later 1950s
@mikefetterman67823 күн бұрын
Your Time is Gonna come is not a cover. babe Im gonna Leave was "borrowed' from Joni Mitchell. Led Zeppelin was sued by Muddy Waters, and Howlin Wolf for doing almost verbatim lyrics of their songs. The Rolling Stones did the same thing, but shouting out the originators as heroes, legends, and, respectively, originators, sharing the royalties in most cases with the songwriter of the song they "borrowed".
@grahamfay24732 күн бұрын
It was not a cover direct or otherwise. I'm sick of people saying this when it was and still is a norm to use past songs as a basis for new interpretations.and rearrangements. Actually the Stones did use covers in their first albums but noone mentions this. It's only because Zep we're so successful and made a lot of money that they were sued. So stop you denigrators!!

Jimmy Page assembled the group, had a pre-vision for what he wanted the career to look like, and then wrote most of the music, and produced ALL of Led Zeppelin's music,.......all of it.
