Good review, thanks. re: the "You are considered ugly by everyone you meet, how does the queen make you question that perception?" followed by the ""You are considered ugly by everyone you meet, how does the queen make you question that perception?": I'd probably go "Oh, okay, I guess the Queen boosting my esteem earlier has helped me blossom and shine in the eyes of others as well. But on some level I'm always going to doubt - am I genuinely a beautiful person, or do I just believe that because she led me to believe it?"

In final scoring, you only gave yourself 2 glory points for 1 of your monuments, but you also had the Colosseum built, which gives you 2 more glory points. So your final total was 10 glory, not 8 glory.

16:42 that brings 1+2 culture, not 2+2. Not that it would change the outcome of the game...
@MK991123 күн бұрын
You sure you get 3 culture at the 23:40 mark? Since the areas are marked with industry or culture I would think you only get to take the ones you occupy which was 1 no?
@raphaelrochedix77542 күн бұрын
If you get at least 1 culture during your turn, no matter how you get it ( resources on a card, conquest, monument effect...) the amphitheater grants you 2 more.

I found the carry-on bag locally at a chess store. It's about the same price as Amazon, but I save on the shipping and the import charges reduced my carbon footprint by picking it up myself than having it trucked to me.

Looks interesting. You played a victory points building in the first round. It seems that at the beginning of the game it might be better to play buildings that give you special abilities, and then play buildings that give you victory points near the end game. I don't think this would have changed anything but just a tactical analysis. After 2 or 3 plays, I would definitively count how many conquests are left in the deck and maybe how many cards for each monument. A very interesting quick solo game indeed.
@raphaelrochedix77543 күн бұрын
Some tips: -Don't go for Glory points before the 1st invasion. Get ressources, production building(s), regions, useful monuments (2GP monuments) -You can check the discard pile to verify which card is still available or not during the round -In the 2nd era, dtart building the scoring monuments you need. It's risky to start building the key monument for your strategy only in the 3rd era. -Before the 3rd invasion, max your GP.

Further analysis: Colosseum and Forum are better prioritized early for their effects, the rest of monuments can be built in mid or late game. Also, try tracking the cards that are out for the round.

@NoHandleToSpeakOf5 күн бұрын
Some analysis: booster buildings (Mine, Amphitheater and Fort) are best built early so they work all game and provide resources. One-off buildings (Art and Aqueducts) are best built on the last round so they stay in the deck for their resources. Buildings need gold (11), culture (3), military (1). Each monument has two cards in the deck for them. They need culture (21), gold (12), military (3) to be built. So maximize gold first, build boosters asap, then maximize culture, build monuments, spare change goes to military. Conquest seem not worth it as it gets progressively more expensive and there are just two cards that bring resources from the lands (culture and gold which you should have plenty from booster buildings). Conquest also brings few victory points.

Agreed on TAK. Plays great as both a speedy game when you don't want to think too hard (like at the end of a long day) and a slower, more considered, thinky game. I appreciate your game list, a lot of them were not on my radar. Some I recommend trying: Push Fight, Lines of Action, Kings Valley, 40 Bridges

This is a good way to play "Furnace" solo without the expansion "Interbellum". Also what one can do is let the two bots score in order to know if the solo player won or lost. Give the bots cards and resources as you would to a human player. Bots wont activate any of their cards but each resource and card they earned will score them points..for example every card 3 coins and each resource 1 point. At the end of the game you have to make more money than both bots combined

One thing you didn’t do was compare the blossom tokens of the 2 retail editions, as it would be clear just how less distinctive the newer blossoms are from each other - especially the black/purple/blue & the red/orange ones. For me, the older retail version is the one to get hold of - they’re still available & tend to be cheaper than the new retail release.

Thanks for taking the time to make this. Since it's been three years since it was posted, I suspect only a handful of people will ever see this comment, but I feel sort of compelled to make it anyway. 1. I don't understand your reasoning for not including Chess. If you wanted to squeeze in as many games that most people don't know about as possible, you could have just made it your top 11, or your top 10+, put Chess where you felt it belonged, and spent virtually no time on it. This would make the list more useful, as it would serve as a reference point, so people would have a better idea of your tastes/criteria-- if you had Chess at #2, many people would evaluate your other selections differently than if you had it #9, for example. 2. I'm trying really, really hard not to be snarky about this: I just can't take a top Abstract Strategy Game list seriously that doesn't even mention Go. My personal opinion is that Go is #1, and that to the extent that such a thing could somehow be 'objectively' be measured, Go would clearly be #1. But putting that aside, by not at least including it along with Chess as a classic game that you won't be rating, you are basically declaring that you don't like abstract strategy games enough to have learned and become familiar with the most widely played abstract strategy game in history. 3. While I don't think it's as big of a deal as the first two, I think a list of "games you were probably expecting to see but didn't make the cut" would have been helpful, so that we would know which games just didn't do well enough in your estimation to make the list, vs. those that you just haven't played. Obviously you couldn't compile anything resembling a complete list, but games like Othello and Connect Four are well-known enough that it would be helpful to know why they aren't on the list. 4. I think the triumvirate of abstract strategy games for many-- probably most-- people would be Go, Chess, and Shogi. I don't mean 'triumvirate' in the sense of being the best, but rather being the three well-known games that have been played for thousands of years and are still popular enough that people can earn a living playing professionally. I think you could throw in a fourth game that semi-qualifies but is lighter in depth and doesn't have a professional level of competition in Checkers, if you wanted a list of "All time classics that I won't be rating,"-- although, again, I think it would be useful to rate as many of these as you can and just make the list longer if you want to include 10 "not all-time classics", because rating well-known games gives people reference points.
