I go camping frequently enough. And yes a kukri is a great tool to have. But so is a smaller durable camping knife. with that said will a kukri chop down a tree? Pending. But will it help you prep the limbs for further processing yes. If you can find a tree that has a big enough space to break them down, better.

MOD knives are the best man i have the J Rodgers version and it eats wood like no tomorrow most of the wood where i live is iron wood too hard as nails. You got give the knife more of a chance man believe me out of all the knives i have owned also including my Alaskan Bush Camp knife the MOD comes out on top don't give up on the MOD knife.

Close, it was designed for use in all conditions including Arctic conditions and extreme heat. That is why the metal is a softer steel, so it is less brittle in extreme cold. It wasn't a combat or survival knife but a utility tool kept in vehicle kits, it can chop, dig, and bash. A lanyard is required to use it as an axe. It is flawed, it is ment as a cheap, tough utility tool, any typically a poor bit of British army kit to be kept back when more suitable options are not available.

I like mine for carving, like spoons and stuff... It's very light and the shape of the hatchet is perfect for detailed, precision chopping. ✊

My main criticism is that a chopper needs to be more top heavy, with less thick steal in the handle. I have one of these

If you made a knife in a country that has knife problems, would you sell then razor sharp out of the box, or would you sell it blunt knowing only those who know what they're doing can transform it?

Since I've had this knife, I stopped carrying my large chopper, and my Esee 6. I put a killer edge on this beast and take it with me everywhere. A good way to get used to any heavy knife, is to wear it all the time. This knife lightened my load because I could use this knife as my medium to large task knife, and use my knife on my Leatherman Super Tool 300 for small tasks. I don't find this knife to be unbearably heavy at all and I find it could do anything any of my other knives can do. Every knife is different so you have to spend time working with that particular knife to get used to it. I love this knife and I plan on buying the wood handle version but I cant believe I only found out about this knife only 2 weeks ago and one week of using it daily aside from just carrying it. I only paid $94 here in Canada for it while American made knives cost me an arm & a leg. For the price of a Becker BK2, I could've bought 3 of these and not even look back.

This knife is sort of a mixture of a knife, a hatchet, and a machete. It was purpose built, which was for hacking vegetation, and then it was repurposed as a weapon. As far as using it for a survival tool, no. It is too big, too small, to heavy, and lacks delicate work ability. Go get yourself a 4" or 105 mm Mora knife, carbon steel or stainless, and have something that actually has great utility, from your imaginary Defense situation to the practical use of making supper and shaving tinder. Oh, it also weighs way less and fits on your belt. In all my years in the North a Mora with a birch handle was shaving sharp, useful and not in the road. it was also cheap, so if you lost it, there were no tears, you just went and bought another. Practicality trumps good looks when you are in a lonely situation. The threats in surviving are hypothermia ( make a fire), water ( giardia fever), and shelter ( make a lean-to). The perceived threats are wild animals trying to eat you or hillbillies. They are only there on TV shows.

This is the easiest instruction I’ve come across and you explain it really well - just did my first mala all on my own, thanks so much!!!

This knife is part of vehicle kit and life boat kit designed to do anything you need not anything you want ,it is practically bomb proof it is certainly squaddie proof, and in a situation where it is the only tool you have to rely on totally it is priceless . It is a remarkably tough and versatile piece of kit the simple fact you claim to be "very disappointed " with it suggests you need far more challenging environments to test your skills in .It has kept fighting men alive for many years in environments and situations you should pray you never find yourself in .I have just noticed that this post is 10 years old so I hope you have had a chance to revaluate your opinion but if not it hardly matters as there are many good and highly experienced men who are well aware of its true value .
