Glad this popped up in my feed. Nice to see the footage of the South Fork Cottonwood Creek Trail. A few years ago, I took that up to Cirque Lake. Great trail.

We just got back from Soldier Lake…we chickened out on Old Army Pass and had to add mileage and elevation to get to New Army Pass. Stayed at Long Lake. We had an extra day on our trip to do a day hike to Upper Soldier Lake. Gorgeous loop and it was fun reliving it through your video, thank you! Were you nervous about bears while eating in your tent? Also, we saw a structure at minute 52, not sure what it was? Great video, you are an inspiration! 💪🏻

its better to just make a free standing pipe frame... Easier to pick, rigid top rail, less ropes. Its overengineered and not very simple, still takes a lot of place in transport.

Beautiful video. I concur with the Southfork Trail. The rock section is pretty annoying. Was hoping for more footage from top of the drainage into Miter Basin.

Howdy! I honestly do not remember however the best reference for when to go and what it will be like is San Jacinto trail report by SanJacJon. I check his trail report before I go every time. Safe hiking!

A little history for you. In the early 70's you were not allowed to fish in Lake Hodges. I had known a local sheriff at the time who had keys to open the gates and get down to the lake by the dam. He took myself and a couple of friends once to fish there. We would catch and release most of the fish which were large mouth bass. No kidding, true story us kids would count how many fish we caught in an 1 hour and it was over 50 each. The sheriff also had keys to enter the dam and he took us in there. We found massive amounts of survival food and 55 gallon barrels of water inside.

That was fun to watch! You did a great job putting all the footage together. The "log" rule is very important, glad you followed it. I was cowboy camping at Chicken Spring Lake the exact same night, June 22nd. Garmin weather forecasting isn't that great. You remember those trips the best though.

Great minds think alike. I love coming up from SD to Horseshoe Meadow a day early to acclimate at 10k and to spend a night at altitude. Wondering a few miles around the meadow at sunset is so peaceful and a great way to mentally prepare for the kickoff of a trip into the Sierra!

same here. I stay in Tijuana and one time I arrived two days early and stayed at horseshoe two nights before heading up to Langley, staying at cottonwood lake #3. I felt great hiking with 2 days. after that I do at least one night there before going higher.

Hi! I admit I just throw them in the back of the pick up and let them stick out however I guess you could tie them to a roof rack but that's just me.

Yes they are long and stick out the back of my pickup. You could easily cut smaller lengths and sister them together with some eye bolts.

Well I guess this reply would be considered a bit late. Covid gave me a swift kick in the cajones and put me out for a while. I use a Blackbird hammock. It's OK if you have trees but if you want to be able to go and then just crash wherever then I take my cubin fiber tent.

How tall are you ? I like your idea of using your best hammock angle idea. Foot end by your shoulder and head end about belt high. I want a flat lay. I am 6’0” tall
@busseysgarage24852 жыл бұрын
Please accept my apology for the very late reply. By now I'm sure you have an answer. I don't work my channel I just post the videos and move on. Sorry. For what it's worth I am also 6'0". As you may know, flat lay is never dead flat, buy the comfort level in this hammock is tops. Big foot box and plenty of head room. The trick is getting the angle right. This all happens with experimentation. But I will tell you the bottom line and save you some time. #1 Get the under quilt made for this hammock. #2 make sure the ridgeline is not loose. #3 (and this is the secret) Lay down and position yourself so that the under quilt covers your shoulders not your head. (stops at your neck). Go to sleep. When you wake up, if you have slid toward the foot end, raise the foot end. If you have slid toward the head end, raise the head end. Get that right and you will wake up where you went to sleep. I wear a detachable hood to keep my neck and head warm (if needed) and enjoy the light weight and flexibility of a modular sleep setup. My 5 day pack total weight is between 35 and 38 lbs.

This is genius! Two questions: 1. Can I use dynama instead of rope? 2. Could I use some other material than 2x4 for an A-frame? Maybe something shorter than 7' ? I'd like to know how light and small I could make this an attack a hammock from the A-frame to a door frame on any car
@busseysgarage2485 Жыл бұрын
The best stuff on the planet would be wench cord line. Overkill. Smaller dynema would be even better. I just happend to have the rope. Door frame might bew a little low. Tie point for my hang needs to be about 6 feet up. Back door of a van or raised pickup would be great.

I went up for the first time this June. Beautiful place. My hat is off to you guys. I'm 68 but in pretty good shape. I went up Cottonwood Pass to Chicken Springs Lake and back to the trailhead on a day hike. My GPS logged almost 10 miles round trip. I was done when I got back. My goal is to get down to Big Whitney Meadow for a night and at least have the strength to get back the next day. I was wondering if you guys acclimated at the trailhead before your hike? I didn't which I probably should have.
