The problem with the battery is its size. The radio was made before the Alkaline battery gained popularity. Alkaline batteries are just a bit bigger in size than the older batteries. ( like the old Precor radio, it really requires a “heavy duty “[ Zinc ] battery, which are still a bit smaller. ((Tom, You did better than me. I couldn’t close it at all - and I forgot to mention it)). 📻😁

This is worthless without being attached to the same external antenna.

I did some extensive testing of this radio outdoors while at my vacation place in Brittany that is a great place for SW reception. Even on its short whip antenna, it compared to my PL-330. Amazing. Its quite decent speaker helps too. I've had some problems when I connected it to a long wire antenna, though. Stations stepping on each other. Its excellent sensitivity is paid with a certain lack of selectivity when reception is strong. Of course, it requires fairy fingers to tune on SW and the fat needle over a crammed scale only gives you a very rough idea of what frequency you're tuned to. Still a lot of radio for a small price. I like it.

Ok so i have this radio and it used to belong to my great grandpa bit its connected with a cable and not batteries and the battery socket is very rusted to how do i get the clock to work in the first place

This is actually a pretty good radio. It HAS been “serviced “, [ all Caps checked out good], and a realignment was done. TOM, you could try SW at a better time. Even with the whip antenna, you should pull in plenty. It’s no DX-machine, but it does do a decent job of bringing in the stations. 📻🙂

Rookie question: Can this radio run on A/C power? It appears to be battery only. I like having the battery option, but want a radio i can leave plugged in and attached to an external antenna and stereo speakers 99% of the time. Thanks!

Hey I saw you had a video on the Uniden bearcat bc 200xlt I just found one at a thrift store thought I’d pick it up it was only 5$ but I can’t get it to work I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong like not turning it on correctly or maybe it’s an issue with the radio/battery itself but when I plug the battery in a light comes on signaling it is charging so I’m wondering if there’s anything I need to do or if since it is as old as it is it just broke some time over the years (I have no prior knowledge of any radios I just saw it at a thrift store and thought it looked cool so I picked it up)

I had a couple of Sound Design products back then. I think they could be purchased at the local discount store and maybe even one of the chain toy stores. The one I remember was an am/fm radio, clock and telephone. I also think I bought a stereo with a turntable andtape player. Not high end stuff by a long shot but served the purpose and my recollection is they lasted much longer than I would have expected. Thanks for these oldies!

I don't understand how a brand with a certain prestige like Tecsun, continues to incorporate a synchronous detection that is practically useless! I have a 501x, which is an excellent triple conversion receiver, but it is really sad that the synchronous detection is so disastrous. Anyway, Tom, enjoy the good parts of the 2200x, and let's hope that Tecsun corrects this problem permanently.
