It's interesting how a lot of people in sales, even otherwise very good salespeople, say "obviously" a lot. Most of the time, the info they're giving is not obvious to the customer, and saying it provides no benefit. Just an observation on an otherwise very helpful video.

This is a great video and I appreciate the information and effort put in... though I wish they would have gone farther into the cleaning side of things. I have an old property in Indonesia and discovered some suspect linoleum under a kitchen sink that was ripped up by mice. Before cementing over I did some light tear-out and have been researching better methods going forward. I might have lead paint to deal with as well. I have a full-face, 3M-style mask with double pink-labelled filters, tyvek suits and plenty of gloves and such. I didn't realize what I was vacuuming when I started and decided to make my vac dedicated now for hazardous work - but I'm running it with just normal dust filters INSIDE a sealed plastic tote with a secondary, hepa-filtered hole I modded in as an exhaust, figuring I'll do a thorough wet clean up when done. I run the unit outside the property with an extended hose. I built an enclosed plastic shower elevated on a pallet with a rudimentary drain system running downhill into a 55-gallon plastic drum. A sprinkler/garden hose is zip-tied inside the shower with a soap bucket and brush to clean off before I de-mask and disrobe. I decided to only wear shirts and underwear I don't mind throwing away. My QUESTIONS are: What WET process is used to minimize dust inside the building? Do you ever just spray with water or soap water and skeed/wet vac the stuff up? Is there a special THICK soap used to clean and/or encapsulate the dust before mopping/vacuuming? Do you use a mask variant with separate air supply from outside the property, and what does that look like? Again, I'm just an amateur property owner and actually still waiting for test results - but the property is 100+ years old, so I'm assuming I've got more work ahead of me. Any advice you can give would be appreciated, thanks! Liked and sub'd! 🎉

Enjoyed the video. Picked up some good info about conversion varnish as opposed to pre-cat lacquer. I've got it in my mind to become a great finisher, even though I'm just a DIYer. I hate making nice projects only to be let down by my finishing techniques. I refinished my own cabinets and used Sherwin Williams Gallery Series paint. Came out quite nice for my first time using HVLP system. I want to get into lacquers now.

Asbestos in good condition poses no risk to health. If they were floor tiles then they are low risk. If they were ceiling tiles, likely insulating board then they are higher risk

Mitigation is a good thing, but it’s impossible to eliminate every fiber, we all get fibers in us everyday, your immune system does deal with it, large amounts will overwhelm your immune system though, and smoking and poor health habits make it even worse. Use air filters in your house, and keep your house clean, don’t disturb suspicious materials without testing and using mitigating procedures, live a healthy life style, it keeps your immune system strong.
@claireh.7605
@claireh.7605 11 ай бұрын
Asbestos fiber slices the immune system garbage disposal cell and makes the acidic contents leak out, the acid then causes scarring in the lung tissue around it. Our immune system clean up cells have not evolved to not be punctured by the asbestos fiber. It’s like a spear the goes in the mouth of the cell and gets stuck and the cell dies and the bad stuff leaks out of it. That’s the mechanism in asbestos disease.

Hi @LethalMayo, Asbestos is too often underestimated and always poses an unrecognised danger. Please be aware of the health risks posed by asbestos and make others aware as well. Always consult experts when it comes to the analysis and removal of asbestos-containing materials and comply with the applicable safety precautions. The mandatory respirator is just one part of a comprehensive set of self-protection measures. Stay healthy!

Hi @@brandondaley6161 that is certainly true, there are substances that can immediately cause acute problems. Will asbestos come out in a washing machine?
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH Жыл бұрын
Hi @Runner 17, Clothing contaminated with asbestos fibres will not be effectively cleaned of the hazardous material in washing machines commonly used for domestic purposes. On the contrary, the washing machine will also be contaminated and with it every textile that is subsequently washed in it. Thus, you run the risk of spreading the harmful fibres to other living areas as well as to the clothes of other people living in your household. Send your clothes to a special cleaning company, which also cleans fire brigade equipment, for example, to effectively remove asbestos. Or simply throw them away. Stay healthy!

@@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH Thank you. Someone told me the opposite. We have a basement floor that may have asbestos embedded in it. Could I send you pictures of the floor to see for yourself?
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH Жыл бұрын
Hi @@blue18404 , It’s practically impossible to judge whether your floor tiles might contain asbestos just by having a look at a picture of them. If you really want to be sure, you should have a small sample of the material in question tested in a certified laboratory. If an analysis reveals asbestos in your home, please only commission specialists with the necessary certificate of competence to remove it, as otherwise asbestos fibers can pollute room and apartment air and bind stubbornly and permanently to clothing and other materials. And please always observe the safety and procedural guidelines for handling asbestos that apply in your country. Stay healthy!

@@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH I don't know where you get your info. Any 9"x9" floor tile is guaranteed asbestos, easy way to tell. Other sizes could contain it but 9x9 has asbestos in it 100%.

@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH Жыл бұрын
@@brandondaley6161 You are probably more familiar with this particular format of tiles. As we are an analytical laboratory with headquarters in Germany, we are not necessarily familiar with typical asbestos products for the American market. Typical contexts of asbestos use, on the other hand, are very familiar. Therefore, we would like to point out that the problem with floor coverings is sometimes not the coverings themselves. Asbestos was also used by the industry in floor adhesives that were used to lay non-asbestos-containing floors. As so often, the devil is in the detail. Stay healthy!

Question, what risk level would asbestos shingle removal be?
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH Жыл бұрын
Theoretically, of course, even a single fiber of asbestos can make you sick. In reality we are all exposed to a background level of about 100 to 150 fibers per m³ of air. In general, it is probably considered today that the risk of contracting cancer or other asbestos-related diseases increases with the rate of exposure. Stay healthy!

Usually, an asbestos project is supervised by an independent consultant who can set up all of these procedures to make sure abatement is performed as per the regulations using the appropriately sized equipment and as planned. Certified and licensed Asbestos Project Managers/Consultants usually run air sampling tests befor, during and after project completion which are sent to an accredited Env Lab for asbestos to analyze the samples. There are multiple types of air samples that can be taken before, during, and after the abatement project. A number of air samples with a special pump are usually set up for sampling the air for any asbestos fibers using PCM cassettes and blanks. Upon receiving the sample results from the lab, the asbestos consultant can interpret the findings of the lab analysis with regard to the counts of asbestos fibers concentration in the air of a working zone should not exceed 0.1 fiber per centimeter cube (ff/cc). For an asbestos abatement clearance test, this level is 10-fold lower: 0.01 ff/cc. The most common method to measure the concentration of fibers in the air is a method developed by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (USA): NIOSH 7400. Bottom-line, this is not as simple as a DIY take-home test kit, even the simplest settled dust wipe samples require a trained person who understands how to take the surface sample, prepare it with a chain of custody and send it to the lab for analysis. It is always safe to ask an expert before you disturb or hire a contractor to remove ACM or suspected Asbestos Containing Material. I hope this was helpful!

Everyone is going to tell you something differently. If you have asbestos siding, you can cover it up with vinyl siding. I recommend using an insulated barrier over the asbestos shingle before installing siding. I also think you can install wood over asbestos siding as well. Asbestos siding is a great insulator for your home.
