Hi @LethalMayo, Asbestos is too often underestimated and always poses an unrecognised danger. Please be aware of the health risks posed by asbestos and make others aware as well. Always consult experts when it comes to the analysis and removal of asbestos-containing materials and comply with the applicable safety precautions. The mandatory respirator is just one part of a comprehensive set of self-protection measures. Stay healthy!

Hi @@brandondaley6161 that is certainly true, there are substances that can immediately cause acute problems. But it is precisely the long latency period of around 15 years that makes asbestos so treacherous. Not underestimating the danger can't hurt in any case. That is why we always advise caution. This is a great video and I appreciate the information and effort put in... though I wish they would have gone farther into the cleaning side of things. I have an old property in Indonesia and discovered some suspect linoleum under a kitchen sink that was ripped up by mice. Before cementing over I did some light tear-out and have been researching better methods going forward. I might have lead paint to deal with as well. I have a full-face, 3M-style mask with double pink-labelled filters, tyvek suits and plenty of gloves and such. I didn't realize what I was vacuuming when I started and decided to make my vac dedicated now for hazardous work - but I'm running it with just normal dust filters INSIDE a sealed plastic tote with a secondary, hepa-filtered hole I modded in as an exhaust, figuring I'll do a thorough wet clean up when done. I run the unit outside the property with an extended hose. I built an enclosed plastic shower elevated on a pallet with a rudimentary drain system running downhill into a 55-gallon plastic drum. A sprinkler/garden hose is zip-tied inside the shower with a soap bucket and brush to clean off before I de-mask and disrobe. I decided to only wear shirts and underwear I don't mind throwing away. My QUESTIONS are: What WET process is used to minimize dust inside the building? Do you ever just spray with water or soap water and skeed/wet vac the stuff up? Is there a special THICK soap used to clean and/or encapsulate the dust before mopping/vacuuming? Do you use a mask variant with separate air supply from outside the property, and what does that look like? Again, I'm just an amateur property owner and actually still waiting for test results - but the property is 100+ years old, so I'm assuming I've got more work ahead of me. Any advice you can give would be appreciated, thanks! Liked and sub'd! 🎉

Everyone is going to tell you something differently. If you have asbestos siding, you can cover it up with vinyl siding. I recommend using an insulated barrier over the asbestos shingle before installing siding. I also think you can install wood over asbestos siding as well. Asbestos siding is a great insulator for your home.

Usually, an asbestos project is supervised by an independent consultant who can set up all of these procedures to make sure abatement is performed as per the regulations using the appropriately sized equipment and as planned. Certified and licensed Asbestos Project Managers/Consultants usually run air sampling tests befor, during and after project completion which are sent to an accredited Env Lab for asbestos to analyze the samples. There are multiple types of air samples that can be taken before, during, and after the abatement project. A number of air samples with a special pump are usually set up for sampling the air for any asbestos fibers using PCM cassettes and blanks. Upon receiving the sample results from the lab, the asbestos consultant can interpret the findings of the lab analysis with regard to the counts of asbestos fibers concentration in the air of a working zone should not exceed 0.1 fiber per centimeter cube (ff/cc). For an asbestos abatement clearance test, this level is 10-fold lower: 0.01 ff/cc. The most common method to measure the concentration of fibers in the air is a method developed by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (USA): NIOSH 7400. Bottom-line, this is not as simple as a DIY take-home test kit, even the simplest settled dust wipe samples require a trained person who understands how to take the surface sample, prepare it with a chain of custody and send it to the lab for analysis. It is always safe to ask an expert before you disturb or hire a contractor to remove ACM or suspected Asbestos Containing Material. I hope this was helpful!

Theoretically, of course, even a single fiber of asbestos can make you sick. In reality we are all exposed to a background level of about 100 to 150 fibers per m³ of air. In general, it is probably considered today that the risk of contracting cancer or other asbestos-related diseases increases with the rate of exposure. With professional asbestos abatement, however, the exhaust air should be filtered so that you should not be exposed in your car. Stay healthy!

Only friable asbestos was banned in 1981, the federal ban on asbestos did not happen until January 2019. Your text bubble for the PAPR indicates an N95 filter which should read P100. Full-face respirators must also be quantitative fit tested, as smoke qualitative methods testing/bitrex/banana oil is limited to a fit factor (FF) of 100, full-face require a FF of 500 as per the CSA Standard Z94.4. Otherwise, great video.

I can only speak to tile, but even though the epa banned it in the 70s, I'm fairly certain it was allowed to be sold until 1986 due to the existing stock of material of manufacturing and stores.. also some don't realize that the black adhesive usually has asbestos in it as well.. the most important fact is that it's not becoming airborne unless the tile cracked, & spray water, seal off hvac/ openings, move out all furniture, rent air filters, throw away your clothes & mop heads

@@detgoat As non-friable were not banned in Canada until 2019, they were legal to install, however, manufacturers stopped using asbestos in many non-friable products when the friable materials were banned in 1981. We don't find them after 1986 for this reason. The underlying mastic, however (also legal until 2019), did not cease use until about 1982. Isolating HVAC, enclosures and establishing negative pressure is a bit of overkill for VAT and mastic unless ( you're using power tools or not wetting it (i.e following Type 2 or 3 procedures rather than Type 1) - There are called low, moderate and high-risk operations in some provinces instead of Type 1, 2 and 3 like in Ontario under O.Reg. 278/05

@genew5758
@genew5758 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can add new windows to your house if it has asbestos siding. Make sure you wear the appropriate respirators and wet the siding liberally with water and soap. If you're careful, the tiles may remain intact when removing. You can also buy non asbestos looking tile to match the rest of your siding. Asbestos siding is actually a very good product and works well as an insulator.

Will asbestos come out in a washing machine?
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH Жыл бұрын
Hi @Runner 17, Clothing contaminated with asbestos fibres will not be effectively cleaned of the hazardous material in washing machines commonly used for domestic purposes. On the contrary, the washing machine will also be contaminated and with it every textile that is subsequently washed in it. Thus, you run the risk of spreading the harmful fibres to other living areas as well as to the clothes of other people living in your household. Send your clothes to a special cleaning company, which also cleans fire brigade equipment, for example, to effectively remove asbestos. Or simply throw them away. Stay healthy!

@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH
@CRBAnalyseServiceGmbH Жыл бұрын
Hi @@blue18404 , It’s practically impossible to judge whether your floor tiles might contain asbestos just by having a look at a picture of them. If you really want to be sure, you should have a small sample of the material in question tested in a certified laboratory. If an analysis reveals asbestos in your home, please only commission specialists with the necessary certificate of competence to remove it, as otherwise asbestos fibers can pollute room and apartment air and bind stubbornly and permanently to clothing and other materials. And please always observe the safety and procedural guidelines for handling asbestos that apply in your country. Stay healthy!

@@brandondaley6161 You are probably more familiar with this particular format of tiles. As we are an analytical laboratory with headquarters in Germany, we are not necessarily familiar with typical asbestos products for the American market. Typical contexts of asbestos use, on the other hand, are very familiar. Therefore, we would like to point out that the problem with floor coverings is sometimes not the coverings themselves. Asbestos was also used by the industry in floor adhesives that were used to lay non-asbestos-containing floors. As so often, the devil is in the detail. Stay healthy!

If your tiles are not disturbed/ cracked, & are still adhered to subfloor well, it's probably safer to not disturb it, if you can encapsulate/ seal it, & install your flooring choice over it.. especially if you're considering a diy removal.. but unless carpet or sheet vinyl, you will need to take the extra time/ labor/ $ to make sure the subfloor is flat [not necessarily level though].. It very well might be safer and cheaper to just encapsulate and go over it

Mitigation is a good thing, but it’s impossible to eliminate every fiber, we all get fibers in us everyday, your immune system does deal with it, large amounts will overwhelm your immune system though, and smoking and poor health habits make it even worse. Use air filters in your house, and keep your house clean, don’t disturb suspicious materials without testing and using mitigating procedures, live a healthy life style, it keeps your immune system strong.
@claireh.7605
@claireh.7605 Жыл бұрын
Asbestos fiber slices the immune system garbage disposal cell and makes the acidic contents leak out, the acid then causes scarring in the lung tissue around it. Our immune system clean up cells have not evolved to not be punctured by the asbestos fiber. It’s like a spear the goes in the mouth of the cell and gets stuck and the cell dies and the bad stuff leaks out of it. That’s the mechanism in asbestos disease.
