"right guys, we are about to punch out a batch, its going to be worth $1 a piece... try to make sure you put the right tool in the machine?" i can understand mistakes due to broken dies, or misaligned dies, but to get the wrong die in there altogether? yeah, makes you wonder what sort of criteria they have for the hiring process...

Storing coins in polyethene plastic. Apparently, chemicals in the plastic can leach out and affect your coins. Store all coins in the correct acrylic coin storage containers or cardboard flips.

Haven't found the mule yet, will happen I've gone through enough rolls. But have found a few odd errors and two rotated 2016 ANZAC $1 and Women's Suffrage I've found 3 with rotations. Also a few with missing letters and one completely missing Elizabeth and 2004 is barely visible except for an extremely light E and partial shadow of 04.

Hi Matt…somehow the algorithm brought me here. Great video. Good insights. You have said what I’ve been thinking for a long time now. I really hate flippers. When I started this hobby in Australia, it wasn’t that bad. But now, so many flippers that getting a coin for my personal collection has become difficult if not impossible. I also maintain stamps, only mint from Australia and New Zealand. I also collect banknotes and of all things Starbucks mugs. Thanks.

Good info Mat. I have been lucky enough to find 2 mules. Both slightly offset but still happy to have them. I have looked through a lot of coins to find them. Best wishes for the year.

Nice video, but it seems like there are way more than 6-10,000 mules, there are plenty on ebay. Dan the Coin Man does noodling.

Its great sharing this information i no longer collect coins however, I have a RAM year 2000 mint roll would it be worth unwrapping the roll in the hope there is a mule among the roll, or should I keep it intact?

Another great story Matt, l have a 2014 ANZAC $1.00 coin with a cud on the lower part of the Queen's effigy and a 2019 JC mint set with a cud on the fifth kangaroo $1.00 coin, these are two of my favourite error coins.

Apparently, there's also an unknown minted amount of $1 mules from 1984? I've been on the "look out" for one of those for some time now

I have one of these that I bought from Bruce in Perth. Sometimes I wonder if one day it could command a premium as it was one of the ones that he found at the Casino. When I bought it in 2011 he had 27 examples that he was willing to sell. He spent an untold number of hours looking for them, dedication to a tee.

Very detailed and nice video! Keep it up 👍! I have found only 1 mule so far, somehow I fished it out of circulation within 2 years of collecting! It’s a decent double rim too! Good to see you do a video on this coin 🪙. I look forward to seeing your future videos as always.

I have noddled hundreds of thousands of $1 coins, and I have found 1 mule only. A few die fill errors, a few rotation errors and hundreds of rabbit ears spew roos and back pack errors.

Why is the Mars coin the most sought after, arent the other 9 coins the same mintage as the Mars coin? Who's the bright spark that decided 1 coin from a set of $2 should be worth more when they are the same mintage and I would much rather the full set instead of 1 coin from a set.

I put a set and Book with its original plastic cover and box together from Eleven different Sellers over a period of a Year a couple of years a go now , It truly was a Tour of the Solar System and its planets and how expensive they could be , before my planetary journey started i remember some time in 2018 seeing a PCGS MS69 Mars coin sell for only $60 at auction lol 🤣💦👍 Good video Matt

@LostCylon11 күн бұрын
The Australian mint should make a set of the rarest Australian coins ever. Every coin should be rather distinct from the actual coin, no removing a simple dot etc. :), but they should be close. Histically, THAT set would be worth more than the face value from the start, and sell for a premium price, even among non collectors...

Something with a mintage figure of 7000 shouldn’t cost $10k - it’s speculative and because people are hoarding them. You can buy a dump for that and there’s <1000 of them out there. I can’t imagine this will keep its value, but who knows!
@kaynef663711 күн бұрын
Exactly , most Perth mint proof coins with mintages of 5000 don’t even sell out most times . If the media said they are rare the sheeple are all over it
@peecee138411 күн бұрын
My local coin dealer talked me into buying one because at the time it was relatively expensive (and I thought the coins were ugly!). He mentioned the $2, but also that there were 4 OTHER first-of-their-type coins (I forget which ones!). So I purchased one set ($10 off). Now wishing I had bought ten sets 😂 P.S. How much did you pay for it Matthew? I know you won't say!! 😂

That is a bloody nice set. I can't believe it didn't go off back in the day. I'm more a stacker than a collector, but if I was I'd be right on the phone saying "take my money!". Oh to have a time machine and go back and buy up all your past inventory

The question now is how many complete sets actually exist? The $2 Mars Coin was lifted from so many sets and sold individually that I’d say lest than half of the original mintage would still be in a complete set. Something to ponder over.

I agree but actually the price has fallen from its highs...(?)
