Matt! Just thought of you! I was on Reddit and a parent needed advice for their son who is a 9 year old obsessed with numismatics!!! What a blessing to have such youth interested these days. I love sovereigns!!!! That is my second most wanted gold world coin!! That is one really cool coin! Bless you and yours Sir!

@@ThompsonsCoins It is the Gold Buffalo from the US....I drooled over that coin as a child. Hopefully one day I will get one.

Great video, I have been stacking sovereigns since our Gordon Brown sold the UK gold reserve at the lowest price ever hence I have quite a few. This was a very interesting coin and may warrant further research to find out if more sovereigns exist like that one. I also liked your poster of the history of Australian coins, no doubt the guards on the prison ships brought over coins, such as the silver 2p, shillings etc which could be very collectable at your end. Thanks for showing.

Thanks for watching Frankie! Sovereigns have always fascinated me and it's a real privilege to be able to help collectors build up their sets! 😊 There's also many stories of convicts using cartwheel pennies for love letters to family back home too!

What extra value would those errors add to that sovereign? Thanks J.🙋🏻♂️
@ThompsonsCoins7 ай бұрын
Errors are a fascinating area of the market and we've seen coins like the 2000 $1 mule fetch many thousands for a base metal coin with an error. A coin like this is currently attainable for under a few thousand but I personally feel that they may be more affordable partially due to lack of awareness/publicity so maybe I'll check back in a few years and we can see if things like this have gone bananas 🤷

I just saw Phil's finds and collects new 50 cent book. I didn't realise you had a book that has clip ins and has space for the 6 effigies. Book 7 was a VST. Yours his 8th book is much better. Thanks Thompson Coins.

Great coin, and very interesting errors! Thanks for sharing. Sovereigns are often traded based on the spot price of the day - higher for better grade examples of course - and yours is definitely a nice example in any case, but out of interest what kind of premium would errors like those add?

Hey, I saw this coin when I came in. Pretty sure it was on the right side when you walk in to the store. I'm still a bit confused with the sovereigns. If they were discontinued so long ago, why has the perth mint just released a 2024 one? Or is that just a one-off commemorative? I should probably do some more research 😅 Unique coin and great video as usual! Show the expensive 5cent one next!
@ThompsonsCoins7 ай бұрын
Indeed!!! On the museum wall 😉 So the Perth Mint still produces sovereigns but they are generally proof sovs and not for circulation, back in the day those coins being struck were actually used as currency which is also why they were being made in the millions rather than the modern ones which are usually a few thousand at most. Great idea!! I'll definitely get around to that one in the near future 🥳 thanks for watching mate!
