As a Rugby fan it is a pity the GAA didnt just go with Rugby and Hurling rather than invent Gaelic Football. Ireland would never lose a match. I also heard that there was a football ish game in Georgia that involved violence and a ball... the problem was no other countries played so the georgians saw that there were similarities with their gsme and Rubgy so the georgians decided to move their game to Rugby and they are becoming an upcoming rugby nation.

Gaelic football is criminally overlooked globally. I had discovered it by accident when I was watching Australian football and they started talking about an upcoming Australian Ireland international match. It quickly sucked me in. Now, I have a subscription to GAAGO so I can watch it and hurling when I want.

Excellent video. I follow CFL and Rugby Union, but also enjoy the other forms of the sport. I've always been fascinated by the threads of similarities between them (especially the contact versions) and the gradual tweeking of the rules that ultimately created the games we have today.

Thank you so very much for the kind comment. Funny enough, I'm nearly the same. I've been following NFL and CFL for most of my life, having grown up in Michigan close to the Canadian border. In my early 20s I discovered both Rugby Union and Aussie rules. I was hooked. I would read as much as I could get my hands on about the early years of football. The slow evolution to what we have today has been one of my fascinations for a while now.

We do get overlooked in England so it's no slight just as a Villa fan myself it's a bit personal lol Great video though comment was made pre viewed. @@linky8899 If I can get myself to England someday, I will be taking a self guided football tour. I can't imagine how anyone could overlook England. It's where it was all born. I suppose it shouldn't surprise me, though. There is a lot of ignorance when it comes to the history of these sports. Especially over here.

@@DougsShack the eight bite era was good but the 16 bite era had it all especially RPGs. I wouldn’t say we knew what we had. Times were simpler back then for sure which I’d attest to the major success to these games; they were simple. Amazing without doing much. The brutality of rugby back then would never be tolerated today with cameras and replays seeing everything on the field. The 1956 test series between the ABs and Boks is probably the most famous series ever. The ABs won in the end but it was brutal stuff.

Going back even further....it isn't easy to find but take a look at what was there before the Olympic Stand was constructed and try telling me it isn't the most beautiful Stadium imaginable. Those that originally built the MCG did so for £5000. They built it for sporting and not commercial reasons, unlike replacing beauty with the monstrosity that is the Olympic Stand, and they used their own money as opposed to robbing the taxpayer. The destruction of the once-great Southern Stand continued this parasitical tradition.
