Super helpful video, thank you. I came here after not fully loving my 4099, and learning about the more recent MCM 114. To my ear, the 4099 has a sharper high frequency, which may cut better in some group situations, but the Neumann sounded much more pleasing overall. I may give the MCM a shot based on this. I also enjoyed hearing the different mic positions on the double bass and how that changed the tone.

I'm just looking for a trick to make my Cello sound like an upright bass. Sounds to me like the first sound you got out of the Pitchfork

Informative and enjoyable! Considering this effects unit to use with various instruments including acoustic guitars, baritone acoustic guitar, violin and harmonica. Could be stimulating a fun, two things that get me to play here at home. Thank you!

Thank you from south korea. this is This is exactly what I was looking for. I play upright bass and i using two pickups blended with a Headway preamp. I have also connected an IR pedal, tuner, and looper pedal to the FX loop. I no longer need cumbersome gear bags. I want to thank James May and Josh Bennett again for creating the device I’ve imagined.

Very interesting insight! I'm right at the point with my pedals & Tone dexter 2 (not even a board yet) where if I add one more effect it'll be inconvenient to reach with my foot. Maybe standing with a block strap could help, we'll see. The idea of just going with an ME box sounds smart though

Thanks so much for your videos! Question for you - I've been using the Boss rc505 mkii for a couple of years with my cello and I feel like it's degrading the sound of the cello white a bit. I've attempted to EQ it (both with the internal EQ and a Grace Design EQ) but have only have moderate success. Do you have a sense of what the best multi-channel looper would be for a cello?
@ElectricStringPlayer3 ай бұрын
My sense is that it is Ableton. Once you reach the level of complexity of a full-fledged one, the rig's hardware costs and size means you are better off going that direction.

Thanks for the review cuz! Really helpful. Just wondering if the expression pedal is very useful? Is it used for anything other than volume? You guys didn’t seem to mention it much…
@110000383 ай бұрын
Thanks for the in depth discussion. My main concern would be how well would this stand up in a live situation just to get a nice violin tone. I'm not sure you really answered that.

Thank you for the video! I'm looking to buy an SVC110 for silent practise with headphones and I don't want to rely on the built-in pre-amp. What's the best setup if my only goal is silent practise with headphones and I only care about rich/full sound? :)

Thank you for your amazing and helpful video Jacob!! Technical question... I am purchasing a DPA 4099 tomorrow, and am planning to follow up with the Shertler Stat B set next. (Pickup + pre amp). You mentioned the importance of blending the pickup and microphone.. is it important for me to blend it in a dual input preamp (Shertler Yellow Blender), or can my amp (Fishman Loudbox Mini) do the job and then feed this direct into the system? Thanks !!

I disagree a bit .. My 76 year old female violinist doesnt want to buy /learn to play / or transport a cello .. wouldnt a midi electric violin into a Roland GR-55 set to cello be a better?

Using it for 3 years.. Practical and affordable wireless solution for small venues. Sound & effects are decent. Unfortunately, on louder/ bigger stages/ environments it seems hardly impossible to not end up having feedback issues. The mic takes in quite a lot of surrounding noises. I can stand 1m or even further away and speak in normal voice.. It will still be heard on the speaker.

Ampero 2 Stage allows the same or better inputs/functionality + much more for much less than 1300 $ - it's around 700$. It also can load acoustic IR's... It's about the same price as Tonedexter.

I've been using my TD II with my fiddle and mandolin for around a week now and am very happy with it. It will replace two LR Baggs Para DI's and two clean boost pedals as all is handled with the TD. The included option of blending with a mic and pickup (not using a WaveMap) is a nice option to have. I am using a Baggs bridge pu on fiddle and Baggs Radius pu on mando, thanks James!

These effects units are also good for synths and voice. I bought all three types without the pedal for some added spice. The best part of these pedals is that you have full control over tempo/bpm and can adjust on the fly on the computer. These units are great!

I’m considering something like this to go with my Taylor 214, primarily through to a DAW for recording. I was wondering if it’s really more for live than DAW recording use. Also I had sort of leaned towards the Nux Optima Air as there has been some good demos but I’ll definitely re-evaluate at this point.

I bought a small battery on Amazon for around $30 that should power the TD2 for at least 6 hours, so the power consumption issue isn't really an issue with the battery topic mentioned.

Do you think these Mics are too noisy for Studio work? 23 DPA seems very noisy. I'm into music like Alvin Lucier and Elaine radigue, very quiet delicate classical drone music. And stuff like taku sugimoto which has lots of Silence in the compositions I've been working on extended techniques with my ebow and acoustic guitar that can't be amplfied by normal guitar pickups i was hoping these mics would work but 23dba of self-noise seems too much. Does anyone have any experience with super quiet delicate music and these mics?

I've done some studio work with both including replacing big string sections for artists like Brett Young. Noice is not an issue with either mic.

this device is amazing. I just used it on a yamaha SLB 300, I modeled my real acoustic bass with a mic and then mix this with the slb pickup. Even the first attempt sounded WAY better than the build-in modelings from yamaha, at least in my opinion. Part of this is that the tonedexter has decent EQ-ing. The other key element is the ability to control the spaciousness. (no, I didn't know what this is either, but it is explained very well and the moment you turn this knob you get it). It turns out I like to remove or nearly remove the spaciousness from my amplified bass sound..it's just not what I am looking for when mixing in the microphone

That is exciting. Is the new Lr Baggs Voiceprint vs ToneDexter II video coming out soon? hahah! How is your experience with th TDII so far? I was going to pull the trigger on the VPDI for acoustic guitar but the TDII looks like a beast and could save me space on my pedalboard!

Nice video over all. The two mics sound very similar to my ears on every video that I watch. The sound and editing of the voices was a bit irritating, though. Jacobs voice is way louder (sometimes slightly distorting?) than the other two and end of sentences got chopped of too early in a few instances.
