what an a-s-s- you know what. first, when someone is in the ER and their leg bone is sticking out, you don't say "calm down". i am an er provider and I am not "calming down". At that moment, though it seems like it is for the doctor and nurses, due to ego, but it is NOT about YOU. So in the era of all this training about words and trigger words, and pronouns, and other BS the "sir, you have to calm down!" is a bad choice of words in a potential dying patient. AND it is not said in the spirit of let me help you, it is said in the spirit of "you're irritating me right now, so stop it!" Try your other words, like,. "Tough it out for a second Joe, and we'll get some medicine on board," or "Abbie, try to hold still only for a second so I can check it," etc. But "calm down" ? I bet anyone in the room, if that was them or their family would not be "calm". come on now people, words matter right?
