The SoftStart devices cost up $650. Yes, they do work fine, but for a single 13.5 to 15.0 KBTU rv a/c units a Honda EU2200i is sufficient. Draws about 1620W steady power, start up is 1820W, peak power is 2200W. Saved $650. Add a Parkworld 6 foot #12/3 wire extension chord to minimize power loss - $17.

Just because a generator has a 30 amp Receptacle That DON'T MEAN will Produce 30amps !! These generators are far to small to be able to run your entire house off of, you would need one of those big 5000 to 10000 watt generators. You would also need to have a certified electrician install a generator plug into the electrical panel of your home.

All the other videos I've watched on this topic suggest two Honda 2200i bc only one is not enough to power a 13,500 BTU ac. Your 15,000 BTU unit ran 5 days?? Awesome!
@send2artem2 жыл бұрын
@@FearlessQuery21 I'm not sure why but it ran it. I had to have all the other breakers off so that nothing else is drawing power. I also added an easy start system but that was after the video and after me testing it out for 5 days. I'm not sure why it ran it without any issues but it did and I was a bit surprised. But in the end I ended up installing an easy start so that I dont over work the generator.

Looks like you didnt mention the fact that the Honda comes with the 30A / 120V RV outlet and the predator does not. Harbor Freight offers a parallel hookup / RV option, but you need to buy a second generator in order to use that kit, at least I think, anyways. Do you have any updates on this comparison 4 years later? The Predator is less than half the price, so even if you did buy a second generator at $500 you’re only up to $1000, and the RV kit is $80, so with all that you’d still be below $1100, and the Honda is going for more than that, anywhere between $1130 and $1600 at a glance online as of today. I still have quality trust issues with some of Harbor Freights gear, but who doesn’t? Might be worth the investment.

Predator generators have a good reputation. The real downside is, they have a subpar 90 day warranty. So if it fails at 91 days, you're out of luck. Most inverter generators have 2-3 year warranties. I went with the Champion 1700/2000 watt inverter generator, which also has a great reputation. I picked it upon sale on Amazon for under $350.

OK I get it this experiment wasn't perfect. But for all you guys complaining of what he did wrong, would you provide the right solution to the problem? Provide us viewers out there trying to solve the problem as far as the minimum capacity generator to run either 13.5 or 15.0 BTU AC. That is: 1. What size make and model generator 2. Connection (50, 30 Amp, dog bone, cord, length, etc.) 3. Type of AC you have Dometic, ProRV, other off brand China knockoff 4. Fuel consumption by the generator how long what's your climate like in the area you used it. This is what we're researching for on KZbin, yeah provide some constructive cri but get to the guts of the problem running the AC off a generator. ps: The voice recognition capabilities on my Microsoft Surface Pro 8, works quite well.

Is an easy start/soft start necessary for a 13,500 BTU AC? Dometic's Penguin II 13,500 BTU AC only pulls ~1,300 W while running, so perhaps 30% more or ~1,700 W to start.

Reading through the comments, I see that no one else has had my same thought, which probably means that my thought is misguided...But just to confirm that that is the case...Do each of the 110-volt outlets on the Honda EU2200 provide 15 amps? If "yes," then weren't you using only half of the generator's capacity?
@RC51PNW2 жыл бұрын
Answer is “no” for both this general and any 110v electrical outlet. Each individual plug is not rated at 15a, the rating is for the panel combo. You wouldn’t be able to plug 2 1500w space heaters into a single outlet without tripping a GFCI.

@electropentatonic3 жыл бұрын
That AC pulls about 15 amps. We generally account for 125% startup loads, this is NEC standard. That puts you about 2250w at startup. Motors and AC's always pull far less than nameplate so there's no reason this wouldn't work if your Geny is in proper working order. Although you are on the high side of the gen limits, adding those soft starts was a good idea.
@chrisb38143 жыл бұрын
Curious on your math. 15 amps x 125% start up = 33.75 amps x 115 volt = 3880 watts.

I have a Honda EU2000i and tried powering the exact same air conditioner, a Brisk Air II. Unfortunately, the large inrush current fried my inverter and it's a $411 fix. Now I have two EasyStart units, one for each air conditioner. They make a huge difference in the starting load on your generator, which is especially important if you have an inverter generator instead of the old fashioned one. You can get away with this stunt an unknown number of times, but eventually it'll bite you, as it causes premature failure of the MOSFETs. I hope others learn from my mistake.

So are you are now of the opinion that with the soft starts installed you can run the a.c with the eu2000 with no problems ?
@NoelBarlau3 жыл бұрын
@@jimroberts1391 Nope, just the opposite. The WEN 2350 can run it, but the EU2000i can't. The Honda can start it initially with the soft start installed, but once the compressor loads up and ramps up the amperage along with the load, the Honda gives up and trips but the WEN keeps on truckin'. I'm sure an EU2200i would have no problems with the same scenario. Just a few hundred extra watts of continuous power makes all the difference in this situation.
