Royse's sax was tailor made for Monk's sound. It's got this refreshing hop to it that makes you want to jump on one leg for joy 😁😁. Nobody can reproduce it!!!

Was introduced to the music of Andrew Hill with his Black Fire album in 1975. Have been listening to his music ever since ( I have this album). Had the chance to meet him at a solo set he was performing at some long forgotten NYC club almost a year later. Very nice man. Was going to try and get him to perform for my College Jazz Society ,but lost contact & performance info..

Never heard a drummer play the melody quite like that in a solo. Magic all around.

Rouse was a universal send to Monk. Even better mix than Trane.

You have to read a book or two to know whats going on. Maybe a movie will help. The dress helps, regardless you can actually see the colors dance.

The solo part of Billy around 10:36, and for a little bit, reminds me so much of Ian Paice's "The Mule"

Always an electrifying musician, it is so good to see Gato during this legendary concert with a stellar lineup. I was 18 and a gigantic fan of Gato because of my love for Coltrane and my Argentinian heritage when he took this turn in his music. Like all great music it almost sounds better today. Thanks for the video. Crazy to see the crowd so laid back and not gelling with the music-al least physically. The mix is not perfect either.

When Mal Waldron was playing with EMBRYO at "Schlachthof", Munich, I took Bobby Battle (January 8, 1944 - December 6, 2019 in Detroit) over there and he sat in for Dieter Servas. What a great drummer he was!!!
