Vietnam, isn't this country one of the most incompetent financial regulators in modern history? How can a woman,(, Troung My Tan) steal 20% of the countries GDP, or $20 billion dollars and not one of thousands of Vietnamese bank official blew the whistle? Let's face it, Vietnam is a joke. It can't even run its banks. Who's going to invest in a country where the people are easily bribed. As one 20 yr Vietnam lawyer said, there is a culture of not being open and forthwith. It will be a miracle if 43,000 bank accost holders are able to recover their life-savings. So beware. Vietnam could be a bitter opportunity.

Why? Because Singapore is led by smart and forward thinking leaders who work for the nation unlike neighbouring countries who work for their own pockets

Simple, poor universal standard of healthcare provided by the government, ie only the rich can afford first class healthcare , some of their second/ third class wards aren’t air conditioned and exploitation of poorly paid foreign labour to build their city and do other heavy lifting

And, Norway just quietly gets on with it, not constantly looking for attention on the world stage seeking reassurance that it is still a great imperial nation. Norway's governments are not littered with lying, incompetent 'etonians' full of smug arrogance. Norway clearly cares about inequality and has addressed it whereas tories seem to revel in it. Norway's governments can be trusted to abide by international treaty obligations and don't blithely announce "limited" breaches of them. Thatcherism brought a wrecking ball to great chunks of UK industy and pissed oil revenues up a car park wall in tax cuts for tory donor types. It mismanaged the currency making UK goods uncompetitive. Theresa May was partially correct when she branded her party the "nasty" party. Their record over many decades is of a nasty, toxic, incompetent and frankly dangerous party.

My wife was born in malaysian Singapore 🇸🇬 in 1963 - only 18 years after the end of WWII. Her grandmother was an ethnic Chinese who suffered at the hands of the Japanese. My mother-in-law would often refer to the "white devil" when describing certain events of her youth. I am honoured to have had the privilege of being married on the grounds of Fort Canning in 1995. My daughters are what we call "heinz 57" here in Canada 🇨🇦 ❤. Blessings to all who strive to make S'pore a better place!

Since Thatcher, it's all about the individual. Me, me, me. I would not even refer to the UK as a nation or united or great. No contract between citizens otherwise no government would ever have allowed such plundering of its natural resources.....nothing less than a crime.

How you spend your income can reflect on the future prospects of your country. Refer to “Dutch disease“, where natural resources were discovered just off the coast of the Netherlands. Instead of simply selling the oil and distributing the proceeds to the citizens, Norway’s government Invested in the stock market to create its sovereign wealth fund. Because of the exponential growth of the stock it controls , Norway’s investment returns, became exponential, and because of its seats on the boards of many of the companies that it invested in, it also took a role in their governance. This further ensures, that the profits and stock values both increase, leading to greater overall dividends for everyone. In other words, it’s acting like Berkshire Hathaway, the famous stockholding conglomerate. Basically, a money machine. For the Norwegian populace, it means, serve their needs taken care of from the cradle to the grave. Everything from maternity, leave for expectant mothers, to preschool education, to free university, well as a generous retirement benefit. And at all ages, free healthcare. Other nations such as Saudi Arabia spent much more lavishly on questionable projects. So it’s all about the return on investment.

The difference may be explained by good governance in Norway compared to the UK. The UK has been very badly served by it's extreme right-wing nut jobs (is there any other kind?).

Because the Norwegian politicians and companies don't take Lobbyists or Foreign Oil companies on board nor their promised bribes post retirements. Look at all the Aussie and UK ones who rushed to join US lobby consultancy, to pick up barsoaps in their bathhouse, post politics.

Making sure extra money are keep in the nation reserve and not to be channel elsewhere and do not increase the expenditure without control. This is how perhaps Singapore is rich in certain sense. Money is very attractive can be compared to a pretty girl which can seduce many to want them more and would seem to be never enough. It not wise to be remember one can have 4 woman and 7 more, that may keep one preoccupied with woman or more better petty girl. Diverting to other less interesting things may help this addiction whether woman or money. Both usually leads man to mistakes.
