My 2011 Range Rover Sport is showing CHARGING SYSTEM FAULT. My mechanic scanned it and the code is P065B-16. Question: Is this bad alternator problem? It appears I have a blown or burnt wire that connects to the battery. I nnoticed fume or smoke when I connected jump starter to the positive battery terminal in an attempt to jump start the car. Once I jump started the car, the CHARGING SYSTEM FAULT light came on for the first time.

When my 2011 Range Rover Sport was scanned, it showed the following two codes: (1) P065B-16 - Generator Control - Circuit Range performance - circuit voltage below threshold (2) B11DB-87 -Battery monitoring module - missing message.

Just hit 200K on our 2016 CT, been a great car, still gets 47 MPG, original battery pack, had to clean egr system. Ride is kinda rough but ok. But now starting to worry about battery and maybe future head gasket since mileage is getting up there. Right now considering Model Y.

Oddly enough, we are considering a model Y for my wife to replace her VW Tiguan. If you are getting that high of MPG, there is probably still life left in your CT, but I understand your concerns.

Yeah at 200k it gets a little concerning but I do want it to have some trade-in value, I've been a mechanic for over 50 years and have taken great care of this CT. Still have my auto shop and currently drive a model 3 which has been great and maintenance free for almost 4 years so also considering model Y for the wife since the prices have came down and they have proven to be very reliable.

Thank! I bought the aftermarket timing kit but the only piece I could figure how to use was the crankshaft pin!!! When I was finished I got both codes. P0016 and P0017. It runs ok but I'm going to take off the valve cover and the cam actuators and try timing it again.😢
@AutoScholarwithMrB
@AutoScholarwithMrB Күн бұрын
If both cams are out of time it may actually be the crank that’s out. The ecm is going to think the crank is correct and the cams are wrong, which is probably why you are getting those codes. I hope this helps!

@@AutoScholarwithMrB Other question: If the machine does not take any oil out during recovery, that means the system does not have any oil in it? Does the machine pulls oil out of the compressor too? The truck i am working with on the manufacturer label say: R134a Charge 29 oz, 0.82 kg, 1.81 lbs. , Now for the Oil it say: 4.23 oz, 120 cc. So, are we adding 29 oz r134a and the 4.23 oz of oil with dye?, that will go over 29 oz... ( i order some oil that has dye in it already - pre-mixed).
@AutoScholarwithMrB
@AutoScholarwithMrB Күн бұрын
@@burnjack291 so normally I put half of the oil in the compressor and the other half I split into two. One I drizzle through the system (a little in condenser, evaporator, and accumulator, and the other half of that half I charge with the machine. That’s normally if I am replacing the whole system which 9/10 times is what I would be doing if a compressor failed. I hope i explained this right as it is hard to put into text.

@@AutoScholarwithMrB Thanks for the reply and explanation. The question still remains, when you do the recovery will the machine take 100% oil out? from the system,compressor... or there maybe some left in the compressor? I have the RobinAir syringe 18465 model - low side, and the markings on them is just confusing and do not match , like on the label on car it say 4.23 oz / 120 cc and the robinair syringe it has this markings: 1/8 oz 3.7ml and 1/4oz 7.4ml and 3/8oz 11.1ml and 1/2oz 14.8ml.

Hi Mr. B, I just took my 2012 Prius (280k miles) to my local Toyota dealership and they recommended I get a whole new engine. Hopefully you can give me your thoughts. I had just taken it in in March and they attributed the rattle to a misfire in cylinder 1 due to old spark plugs. All of them got replaced and that helped for about 2 weeks. The rattle returned and now it’s a blown head gasket in cylinder 3. The tech sent me a video in which he advised “the cylinder block and/or head usually actually warp beyond specifications. So instead of just doing cylinder head gasket which would not correctly fix it because the specification on your block and/or head is out of spec, it will require replacement of the cylinder block and the head.” Which to me sounds like what he just said couldn’t be fixed due to the possible warping, but not sure. Maybe he just misspoke there. When he spoke with me in person he recommended the new engine since replacing only the head gasket could eventually cause the same issue due to being out of spec. Thoughts? Thank you so much in advance!!!
@AutoScholarwithMrB
@AutoScholarwithMrB 2 күн бұрын
The only way to tell if it is warped is to disassemble, but I would be wary of a bottom end with that many miles on it. The choice would be to replace the engine with a rebuilt unit, find a used engine with less miles, or possibly finding another Prius. Have you replaced the HV battery and the ABS modulator before? Those are also high dollar failure points. If you have replaced both, a repair might be advisable.
@guadamelon
@guadamelon 2 күн бұрын
@@AutoScholarwithMrB thank you so much for your quick response! I’m pretty sure the ABS modulator has not been replaced, but the HV battery was replaced less than 3 years ago. Do you have any recommendations for where to buy used engines? I’ve seen many people mention JDM engine depot. Also about how much would an ABS replacement be if I had someone do it? I’m trying to decide if it’s worth trying to keep the car. It hasn’t ever given me any issues aside from this blown head gasket 😕
@AutoScholarwithMrB
@AutoScholarwithMrB 2 күн бұрын
@@guadamelon I have heard the usual on ABS is $1500-$2500 because the part is so high. I also recommend using new parts from Toyota on that. I have a video on changing it as well that goes into why they fail. As far as engines go, I have heard the JDM engines are the way to go but I have not dealt with them directly. I have used LKQ and they are reliable.

I have a 2023 Toyota Corolla hybrid that had a registered average MPGs of 50 and I get 63. My neighbors just bought a Toyota Tundra hybrid and we're getting 11.3 miles per gallon, until they let me get in the vehicle and show them how to drive a hybrid. On the trip home, after resetting everything, I showed them how to accelerate gently and break gently as if there's an egg in between your foot and the pedal. The result is it more than doubled the MPGs from 11.3 to 23.1. My only frustration is that this type of technology has been around for decades in the train, locomotive, industry. Why did it take so long for the automakers to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into the modern world?

So the labor guide is calling for 17.2 hours for customer pay, but for some reason they are including engine removal in that quote, which isn’t necessary. With the extras thrown in, I would say it normally takes me about a day and a half. I’m somewhat slow on heavy mechanical work like this however. If you are a beginner, three to four days is probably what it would take and what I would plan for.
