I used to read your Blogspot blog about your homestead and its additions religiously. Was working on my garden beds this afternoon and randomly your name popped in my head .. and it lead me here. Hope you’re still out there and living the life you want! Thanks for all the shared knowledge and the view into a life some of us haven’t been able to live yet!

Hey, thanks for popping in and saying hello! Yep, I'm still here. I don't have the chickens anymore but still have something of a garden, fruit trees and blackberries. My blogged has moved a time or two, now at beardystarstuff.net though it's not so much about the garden these days. I've turned to writing more about climate change and politics. You may or may not enjoy it! Glad to hear you've got a garden, thanks again for the visit! -Denny

Beautiful! Thank you! :D Question: Do you have to plant ground cover in the swale itself?... because I've heard people say to never leave the bare soil exposed? I'm not sure if it applies to swales. :/

I just discovered this video and love it! I bought a Mongoose Dolomite fatbike online in 2021 and customized it myself. I did a lot of silly things like putting drop bars and dual flat/clipless pedals on. I understand what one goes through when buying in that price range and what you have to go through to make it what you want! Anyways, great video and would love to connect!

Everything we see going on around us today in society, is a result of war making and the fake war on terror. It is what has stolen so much money from local communities.

I was going to do this in my food forest but my wife would have a fit lol. She already lets me know how much she hates my food forest all the time and I know she would be pretty mad if she walked out one day and saw swells lol.

Oh, well, two things. They are knock-offs from PlanetX. www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/HBOOGBV2/on-one-geoff-handlebar They cost a lot less. I was set to order the real Jones bars but when I saw the shipping cost I backed out. They were already pushing my budget and the shipping pushed it over the top. The knock-offs are nearly identical for far less. Both are made in Asia. Now, to answer the question, I really like them. Having all the added hand positions is great for longer rides. After this video I replaced my makeshift center bag with an actual bag for another improvement for reliably carrying snacks, tools, etc. After putting the nice Ergon cork grips on my fatbike I’ve decided that I’ll be adding those to these bars too, will be even better for the longer rides.

Swales update would be nice

Wow what a classic representation of swales in action, great work. Here's an idea, slip some bananas on the swale berms. It's a great perennial biomass producer. Sweet potato as a ground cover won't hurt. And some palms just behind the swale ditches. Palms have fibourus roots, this will strengthen your swale edge and further protect it from erosion.😉

Have you gone on a long distance ride with it, and if so how comfortable is it on long distances?
@DennyHenke3 жыл бұрын
I ride daily for 2 to 3 hours with no problem. Most of my riding at this point is a mix of gravel, road and trails around my place so not a far distance, usually 16 to 18 miles on a ride. Over the summer I was also riding a 22 -28 mile road ride with it, no problems. That said, comfort is going to be different for everyone based on proper fitting, choice of saddle, clothing etc. Everything from saddle height, stem, handlebars, grips, etc. There’s really a lot that goes into fine tuning. But out of the box it was a pretty comfortable bike for me.

Thanks for the video, it was very helpful! I’m wanting to install a swale on my property along a hillside but I wanna make sure that I’m doing it right. How do I know if a hillside is too steep to build a swale on? Does the ditch have to be in a straight line?
@DennyHenke3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video. I’m not sure about limits on steepness but I think almost anything will work. The key is that it should on the contour of the hill. That may be straight or may not. I built a simple A-frame to measure contour. See here for a good video on that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWrMmmimZpaHoK8

Great review! I just ordered the next step up from Gravity as the $500 version was sold out. I started mountain biking over summer and wanted something for the fall and especially to try in the snow. I'm happy to hear you're loving yours and that it's a capable trail bike too. Also, your own private trail is awesome!!
