Perhaps the wings of even the smaller heralds are only really applicable for lateral movement, only hovering a couple feet off the ground So if a small heralded was tasked to deliver to a mountain they couldn’t fly straight up to the location but instead would just speed over the mountain trail Where as some of the larger heralds could potentially make larger leaps up the mountain

5:36 if you ask me to give a head canon, you would get the following answers: Taking powerful magic doesn’t inherently corrupt, the power hungriness that comes from the act fuels them to go down this depraved path Soaking up the magic is no easy feat, which is why the only way the Paper Mage reliably gets magic from the wizards directly is if they are bound or otherwise weakened to a state where the Paper Mage has the control, only remnants can be taken at a time, because a full spell would fill the paper currently in their staff and be unable to take more leading to the Paper Mage succumbing to the rest of the spell (the rolls of paper have to be replaced to be functional) The Paper Mage can never fully reproduce the spell absorbed the same strength nor style, they are forging magic and that always leads to discrepancies, the distinct identity of the Paper Mage is obvious from seeing their spells as it is like a signature they are trying to copy but cannot get entirely right A combination of both seems fitting for demonstrating the absorbed spell’s power, simple spells have less intricate designs, do not vary in line weight and some may even be able to fit on a single card while powerful spells are detailed, lengthy and rarely have repetition in their inscriptions, but depending on the spell an entire roll of paper may be dedicated to a single spell (likely those that are both powerful and were taken directly from the wizard they belong to)

Still not completely convinced this isn't the same fellow who sold the painter and his daughter the cursed sea shell powder. He looks suspiciously similar to the drawing the daughter made of the suspect. (≖_≖ )

GOOD CATCH! That would be fun if they were indeed the same fellow. Or perhaps it was an item in the mystery box someone had no idea what to do with and sold it for coin.

I love everything about the Peach Pond Cordial. The colour, the design, the everything. This world is really interesting and I love the idea of the different runs. Would the shopkeeper ever be interested in buying items? Overall, I would love to visit these mysterious woods again

Thank you! I could imagine he would trade/ buy items from you if you found something interesting in the woods✨💰

@@lilysillustration Could you hypothetically buy items that were sold by other people who were in the woods before you? Kind of inherited from person to person, making its way back to the shopkeeper

With the phrase "there's not a lot of money in the woods" i imagine a mechanic where you can actually buy special objects with something... different, like parts of your body, wich will give you pretty useful especial objects, but you are now handicaped for the rest of run

Fantasy merchants... my mind immediately jumps to characters like Ostegoth and Vulgrim (Darksiders 2) & Manny Dex from Lost in Random. Manny has four legs and lives inside a closet. But his legs, his LONG arms and his top hat stick out. Dude just opens up the closet doors with his arms and reveals many, many, many cards for sale inside Vulgrim is simply fantastic. Love some details he carries, like a little magic sphere in a net on his belt, as well as a parchment, likely a certificate of quality. And Ostegoth is a goat man who wears a crystal hourglass in his hair, hanging on the back. I find him cosy. They're delightful merchant characters.

@@lilysillustration I'm glad they got your interest! Be sure to also look up Vulgrim's theme from Darksiders 1. So many parts of his presentation come together so well. Appearance, voice, writing, animation and aforementioned theme. Ostegoth is a warmer, less menacing presence. He's not nearly talked about as much in the Darksiders circles but i enjoy him. Oh, and there's two others that may be interesting. Perhaps more for personality and presence than outright "Merchant" design: - Archibald from Magenta Horizon: Neverending Harvest. A Scottish biologist from around early 1800 who kept up his research in the afterlife. He's more researcher than merchant, but still plays the part of the latter. Archibald makes new tools for the protagonist all throughout the journey, like repurposing material resembling the web strings of spiders into a bola. Some of his research led to him testing things on himself, so now he's got a number of mushroom growths on his body. - Layton from Soulstice. He's actually a sassy monk and on-field overseer, dressed fairly simply in a hooded robe and smiling mask, but functions as the merchant character. Like Archibald he takes action on his own to help the protagonists, sneaking through monster-infested streets to look for safehouses and weapon caches that his Order stashed around. A friend of mine, AcriusOakeshott, described him as "You can't rely on him in a fight, but you CAN rely on him."

This creature gives ''American snake oil salesman'' vibes which reminds me of Grunkle Stan from Gravity Falls show. He has the charisma, he has the suit, he has the twisted sense of humor scamming his customers, and the shady items. The mystery boxes are something Stan has done before, like ''the sac of mystery'' (put your money in and it ''mysteriously disappears''). The real difference between this salesman and Grunkle stan is that stans items are fake, arts and craft custom made rip offs with bogus stories while the crow salesman items are magical but with a dice roll risk of backfiring on the customers if they don't choose correctly.

Since this bird person travels, I’d like to imagine that what is currently occupied by a “Coming Soon” sign will eventually be a display for mystical knickknacks, something there is only one of in stock at any moment therefore with a steep price, but also not an item stocked every time due to the considerable effort to obtain even one And that it’s “coming soon” because this person has yet to discover anything or has difficulty obtaining one
