Fanta is a German invention. Since the war-related shortage of raw materials made the production of Coca-Cola in Germany more difficult, the German Coca-Cola chief chemist Wolfgang Schetelig developed Fanta as a replacement product in Essen in 1940 so that The Coca-Cola Company did not have to forego business in Germany.

During the early 1940s Germany was under a military blockade (for obvious reasons). The German subsidiary of Coca Cola could therefore not import the sirup to produce Coke. To be able to keep producing and selling drinks they created a new soft drink out of ingredients that were still available. They called it Fanta after the German word Fantasie. So technically Fanta is a Nazi invention.

Don't worry, you didn't miss out, because I am very sure they upped the juice content a lot and reduced the artificial flavour. For a long time I did not like Fanta and when I recently tried it again I was amazed like you are in the video that it is actualy good now

I am not a big fan of all the sweet drinks from CocaCola. They are full to the brim with sugar and will only make you thirstier... It's better to use Völkl's sugar-free juice (from the health food store) and mix half of it with mineral water.

Fanta is a registered trademark for a carbonated soft drink made by the Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, USA. The name of the brand, which was originally invented in Germany, is derived from the word "fantasy". As the shortage of raw materials due to the war made the production of Coca-Cola in Germany difficult, the German Coca-Cola chief chemist Wolfgang Schetelig developed Fanta as a replacement product in Essen in 1940 so that The Coca-Cola Company did not have to forego business in Germany. From 1942 to 1949, production of Coca-Cola in Germany was completely stopped and replaced by Fanta. I like this drink and here in the north it is often combined with wheat grain (Weizenkorn/Klarer Korn) or vodka!

I really not a sweet tooth, and I rarely drink alcohol. So in restaurants my options are limited to alcohol free beer (and only alcohol free Weizen tastes good) and water. I once talked with a big shot from Coca Cola, and tried to explain that there are no soda pops that are not sweet, and that this is a market gap. He would not have it. He just did not understand and started about artificial sweeteners. They are even worse in sweetness. It's not the sugar I said, it's the sweetness that I didn't like. He just could not see the point. If I didn't like the taste of Coke Zero, try Light. Fanta is not bad, but would really like an orange drink without the sugar or sweeteners. A refreshing sour drink, of sour and bitter, like weizen

I think it has something to do with the ice. In the States, ice is always added to the drink, which waters it down very quickly. If you make the drinks sweeter, the taste doesn't go away so quickly.

Funny that you never tasted Fanta in the last eight years in Germany. I like the taste as well, but since soda pops are good for a fulminant waistline, I try to think of them as occasional treats. Also, I try to avoid products by the Coca-Cola Company, and by Nestlé, but that’s another story. But I did find a soda that tastes just like the German Fanta, maybe even a little bit better. It’s called Harzer Kristall, and you might not get it in your region.

I admittedly don't love Fanta, it's way too sweet in my personal opinion. It's still fine when mixed with Coke though, during a meal & I'm happy you explained the differences between Fanta here and in the US, I always wondered if they're the same or noticably different! :)

Why the German bratwurst is better than the American bratwurst it is the production process in Germany we have a cutter with which the spices, onions, herbs and ice snow are finely chopped and then pressed into a pig's intestine.

You missed the time of "Heisse Hexe" - that was a food brand typically sold in cheap Kiosk, like in a public pool kiosk. This was frozen or cooled food - whole burgers, hotdog, pizza slices etc. that were put (after weeks/months of storing them) into a microwave. mmmhh

One day I will, but I would love to hear your take, especially after your disappointing experience with Hans iG.
