For all the people working with 4.2 or higher version. @31:30 the auto smooth option is now under modifier -> normals -> smooth by angle. Dont forget to right click the object and chose shade smooth.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, for making this tutorial!!! I cannot thank you enough for making one for a starship for a complete beginner like me! I have Blender, but so far it has been so intimidating and frustrating to me that I’ve almost been brought to tears trying to figure it out… your explanations are clear and concise, and not too fast. Thank you.

I found your course super! I learned a lot and as a Stars Wars fan it was a nice nice course to follow. Wished all Blender tutorials on youtube explained it this well (most of the time they go to fast for a beginner/learner). Thanks!

Step 1: after importing all of the reference planes, select them all and press Alt-G. This resets all transforms and puts them all at the world origin without the need to select every individual plane and setting X to 0.

Thanks bud! They're all "hand painted" with a mixture of procedural noise. I also drew in a lot of the panel lines using a roughness map that I linked to the bump/normal map which was absolutely magical in how much more detail it added.

I am having a hard time with the cockpit windows. I do inset, but it does not separate the faces like it does for you. They seem to just move together in one direction. Love you stuff btw, just finished enterprise.

Seems like I can do it individually, but doing two faces at a time has a different outcome.

And I wanna ask, when sculpting the eye and eye area, do we have to sculpt eyelids? Some artists dont make the eyelids. Just giving some spaces for eyelids and they retopo it
@ImaginaShip
@ImaginaShip 8 ай бұрын
I’ve started sculpting the eyelids but I think my problem is that I start with them too high and my characters are initially a little “bug eyed”. In my current project, I’m working on adding a bit more “slack” so the facial armature will have more to work with. The biggest thing I learned from working on Honey Lemon is I need a lot more practice with facial rigging, it’s a beast and makes you realize what you need to do differently with the mesh.

I like the fact you have a Star Trek 3d modelling video. I'm struggling with it being my first time creating with blender (used to tinkered), pc - Mac conversions and some of the shortcuts not working but I will persist. Hoping to get used to 3d modelling for roblox and vrchat. This tutorial is difficult to follow as a beginner but I'm sure it will be worth it the end.

How do you make the texture map?
@ImaginaShip
@ImaginaShip 11 ай бұрын
I built the texture map in photoshop basically starting with a metal paneling photo and worked a little magic. I’ve actually been experimenting with Procedural texturing in the last few months and hope to produce some tutorials along those lines soon. Thanks for checking out the tutorials and hope you’re getting something out of them.

Hello There! I started using Blender 3D back in 2018 to design lightsabers so I'm not exactly a beginner but I wish I had been able to watch your video on building the TIE! sooner I took the challamge in 2020 to test myself and build a TIE and believe me it took longer than the hour or so you probably took. My version didn't turn out too bad though and I've since modified it into a Mining Guild "yellow Pacman" version and the TIE Defender Elite seen in Rebels. I am going to have a look at a few more of your vids, thanks for this one and MTFBWY! p.s. I could tell you were a Photoshop user when you kept calling Edges lines!
@ImaginaShip
@ImaginaShip 11 ай бұрын
Believe me I took a few cracks at building a tie fighter in Blender before making this video so I could make sure I could build in an hour, especially with it being my absolute first tutorial ever. I actually challenged myself as well in 2020 as a lot of us were spending a lot of time indoors so I utilized the time to start really learning blender and even invested in an Alienware machine to have the hardware to work more freely in the program…..and play next video games 😇 I’ve been learning the program for several years as well but still consider myself a newbie. I’ve found that when you start getting bored in one aspect of the program, it’s time to start learning others and have spent the last year learning procedural texturing and sculpting and hope to start producing some videos along those lines!
@fortyeth
@fortyeth 11 ай бұрын
@@ImaginaShipHi again, an Alienware machine? Nice, I can only dream of owning a high end PC like that - I do all my "work" on a Lenovo ThinkPad! I can't bemoan the laptop though as it has let me do most things (basic stuff) and I have dabbled in modelling, texturing and even small animating projects. It's massive fun messing about with Voronoi and Musgrave generated textures. Blender is just so massive in what it can do, and just as you perfect one procedure then you discover another way to accomplish the job which leads to more functions. Keep up the great work and I've subbed to see your next videos! Thanks.
