Great video.... very informative....I'm from the UK and when I was very little I remember seeing American soldiers on TV and my mum telling me that America had just lost a war and were going home! To me, I couldn't believe John Wayne (who was America to me back then) could ever lose a war.....and my fascinating with that war and all the imagery and iconography, began. There was a shop, called the 'swap shop' which had bits of militaria that went as far back as the Hussars (honestly!)..... It had a Vietnam era M1 in the window....but being a little kid I couldn't afford it....and there was no way my hippy mum was gonna buy it for me! Well, sadly, that shop closed back in the 70's and my chance was lost.....until a surplus shop opened in my town and were selling a bunch of them.... I, of course, bought 2 🤭 but gave one away. I always suspected that they might be post Vietnam....and now you've confirmed it for me! Still, I love my M1.... Thanks for the information

@@rockinghammilitaryantiques3884 thank YOU for the video and great history about this iconic helmet! Yes, they are rare....I figure mine must've been when they were transitioning to the modern helmet and the M1 flooded the market. But, interestingly, after 'Band of Brothers' a lot of screen used helmets became available....a friend at work bought one online! Anyway, thanks again for the invaluable education 👍👍👍

Very interesting early tunic ...i think the Hindenburg cross was later added. This style of ribbon was made to wear on civil clothes. Normally it is part of a ribbon bar. Even a single medal was on a ribbon bar. I have no proof of my opinion but i never saw that style before on a tunic

☝🤓 Erm akshually his rank was Stabszahlmeister. Wehrmachtbeamte des Heeres (Armed forces officials of the army) are an obscure and complex subject. They were simultaneously both members of the army and held the status of Reich civil officials. The ranks of these officials were divided into four levels, simple services (Einfacher dienst), middle services (Mitteler dienst), elevated services (Gehobener dienst), and higher services (Höherer dienst). The two ranks in the simple services were equivalent to unterfeldwevel and feldwebel. The three ranks in the middle services were equivalent to oberfeldwebel, leutnant and oberleutnant. The five ranks in the elevated services were equivalent to the ranks from leutnant to oberstleutnant. The eight ranks in the higher services were equivalent to the ranks from oberleutnant to general der infantrie. None of the careers actually had positions for all the possible ranks in the system though. Recruiting officials for example only had three known ranks, leutnant-equivalent sekretär in the middle services and oberleutnant-equivalent inspektor and hauptmann-equivalent oberinspektor the in higher services. The branch colour for officials was dark green, with careers further specified by a secondary color (Nebenfarbe) with the exception of field clergies who had violet branch color. Most of these officials wore Heeresverwaltung HV monogram cyphers on their shoulder boards. The exceptions being: Army post officials (Feldpost) who wore FP cyphers, Secret field police (Geheime feldpolizei) who wore GFP cyphers, War/Military administration (Kriegsverwaltung /Militarverwaltung) who wore eagle cyphers, Military supreme court officials (Reichskriegsgericht) who wore no cyphers and field clergies (Feldgeistliche) who wore no shoulder boards at all. There were a handful of careers with white secondary color but Stabszahlmeister from the paymaster service (Zahlmeisterwesen/Zahlmeisterlaufbahn) is so far the only hauptmann equivalent that I have been able to identify with this secondary branch color. A Stabsapotheker would have had light green piping on the shoulder boards and around 3/4ths the collar tab and since all pharmacist officials were in the higher services (gehobener dienst) their litzen would have been of "toothed" design in gold similar to the litzen worn by officers in OKH and OKW.

Hello I would like to add some comments on these helmets. First first you got your helmet was issued at CIF the Central issuing facility. Second, you would get a subsequent pool from your supply room. Or you could buy the parts at what we call the clothing sale store. And when I was a private, we would have what they call the layout inspection where all your gear had to be laid out and you would have a senior ncl. First sergeant or a sergeant major come and check your gear at. A few times along the way, my career in the military very early back in the 80s. When I was in Germany I was issued a helmet and a helmet liner where the helmet had probably more than likely. It was a Korean war chinstrap and the helmet. When you get it from CIF. Basically somebody just hands you a helmet and it's yours to take care of. During a few inspections where I had my gear looked at the sergeant. Major had commented that the my helmet should be repainted. So to do that, we would go to the clothing sales store where you could buy OD green spray paint. And we would repaint the helmets. The chinstraps say the older anything before the eightit would be changed out. I you also must say. I was in the army the first time from 80 to 83. The chin straps you would go down to your supply room and get a new chin strap. The kind that clipped on to the swivel balls and then you're sweatband as they basically got staying, you would go downstairs and get a new sweatband and replace it because, during the inspections, your stuff needed to be in better condition than it was issued to along the way I had. I had received probably Korean war gear that had to be updated to the 80s standard. So how much were painted repented? Chin straps were changed almost. We're changed almost as often as you wanted to change. It cause you can just go buy a sweatband origin strap at clothing sales for a couple of dollars. And everybody wanted to have the newest and the best, so all of those old. Now vintage or antique chinstraps and sweatbands and helmet liners. Were basically all changed out as the soldier thought that he might need a new one. So I guess basically what I'm saying is you could have a World War 2 helmet with 80s, chin strap and. Turn in your Korean war era, helmet liner to get and then basically you would change your sweatband out. Add the new naturede strap and you were good to go. Because, as any soldier with no dirt or rust on any of your gear is a no no. And you would get gigged for that. I think I got a few gigs on my helmet along the way. Just wanted to throw that out there. So I don't. Your videos were great and i've been collecting now for about 55 years thanks

Some corrections/extra info: - Dana/Parish and R.J. Stampings helmets have similar heat stamps with smaller font numbers going up to 4 digits. - WW2 rear seam stainless rim helmets can exist just like front seam manganese rim helmets can. This is often attributed to company error. - R.J. Stampings helmets are the only type of helmet to use stainless steel rims after WW2.
